I just realised that it has now been more than ten years since this game was first announced. Actually the anniversary was last month (the game was announced on the 19th of August, 2009, and released on the 13th of August 2010).

Given the typical 1+ year development time from announcement to release, even if V3 were announced tomorrow it would likely not be out before the tenth anniversary of V2’s release next year.

Y’all, I know Paradox say they still want to make another Vicky game, but I’m beginning to think it’s just not going to happen.

Fred Wester (former CEO) said that he thinks, that Paradox will announce Victoria 3 before, (I think) 2024. Not sure about the exact year, but around this corner.

We don't know anymore specifics, and it was still only his personal believe and nothing official, but he has the insight of a CEO.

So Victoria 3 will probably come eventually, but it still could take a while.

I remember when people said there probably won't be another Crusader Kings game, and then CK2 came along, 12 years after the first one got released. There was also 11 years between the release of Rome 1 and 2 (Imperator).

I wouldn't give up hope on Victoria 3 just yet.

EDIT: Also keep in mind that Vicky is their most complex series and developing VC3 will probably take more resources and time than the other games they've made since CK2.

They'll probably also be re-inventing a lot of the mechanics, or in some cases the wheel, as was the case with HoI4, which in itself takes a lot of time. E.g. HoI4 got delayed by 18 months and was still very barebones at release.

I think they know they have to go about it extremely cautiously due to the insane hype and immense scale of making a game like Vicky 3. If it's being considered, it's probably a secret project that's going to be an amalgamation of the core of Vicky2 (every worker in the world with production values) and mechanics introduced into games like EUIV (trade node control, naval power projection, basic tax V production income [tariffs goods taxes], establishing trade companies for extractive resource bonuses, etc.) and HOI4 (government ministers, simpler grand scale combat, national focuses, etc.)

I can see how you could make a much better version of Vicky with the mechanics from those two games, and if they insert a more complex national and international debt market (issuing bonds to other states/your own population, having being an international financier be an actual strategy which you can actively set out to do by gaining capital and providing states with lower interest bonds than anyone else, etc.) and restrictions on market accessibility (such as a mechanic for national tonnage for getting access to goods overseas for cheaper and railroads strengthening internal market access to provinces,) it could have their potential, in my opinion, to be their best and most educational game.

It would take a looooooooooooooooooooot of development though, which is why I think it would be unwise to announce it and have people screaming for deadlines.

I am SO tempted to mis-read this as an official announcement that Victoria 3 releases Q1 2025...

TBH, I wouldn't be against a radical simplification of the economic system. Let's be honest, it's never worked well.

True, but imagine Vic2's economic system if it worked properly. I'd really love to see that.

What's needed for a good economic simulation is to have random events that really shake the table. We should not have a classic liberal set of perfectly rational pops milling about, supplying and demanding like there's no cyclical economy out there. Economic booms and busts were hallmarks of this era, and they were all the more globalized as the era wore on.

Actually, a set of events like for the Liberal Revolutions could do the trick. Hmmm...
