This is for those who missed out on past information. If you already knew about this, you can ignore this post.

I did not want to necro the post, and I just wanted to confirm that these workarounds work even in 2.2. I did not try with beta and never will, so I cannot confirm.

For me, before the workaround in late game, it took approximately 2~3 seconds per day at *Fast* speed, with stutters in between the days. And about 1.5 ~ 2 seconds for *Fastest* speed, but with an added bonus of even heavier stutter.

The daily stutter is still there, and there's nothing we could do about that. However, the game has gotten much much smoother and there are no longer any unnecessary stuttering that occur in between the days. Now there's only one single stutter when the game hits a new day (for me at least). Therefore, the days pass much quicker. But this is bearable compared to the stuttering before the workaround. I guess you can say, the game is back to that smooth early mid-game stutter.

For the test, the galaxy was huge with 1000 stars and 25 AI empires including advanced starts and FE. The year is 2600s, with thousands of Pops in the galaxy.

TL;DR (If you don't want to skim through the source thread) The solution is quite simple that it's a little laughable, and very strange.

First solution to try is to log out of Stellaris game launcher. This, for me, have improved game performance significantly, you have no idea. I finally have the breathing room without all those stutters. Be aware though, once you log out of the launcher, you have to turn on the mods again if you have any. Also, disable steam UI overlay, if you are running the game from Steam, which could make tiny difference.

Second solution, if the first one did not help, is launching the game via root file as admin. Do not log into the launcher. The mods will not be there, because you'd have to transfer the mods to the root mod folder where the game is installed.

Caution: I did not try the second solution as of yet, and have no tested ironman mode so I do not know whether this will affect achievements or not.

Interesting, will give it a go next time I load the game up, the slow down and stutter late game puts me off so much I just play to 2320 at most and start new games.

logging out of the paradox launcher seems to help a little bit but I'm really focused in on the daily stutter which I suspect is an engine deficiency

Nearly all current PDX games have this unfortunately. HOI4, CK2, EU4, Stellaris. In my experience with the other games, running from the root .exe has fixed some stuttering problems. It's definitely an issue with Clausewitz, as CK2 and Stellaris both use it, and Stellaris has nowhere near the amount of push-the-envelope content as CK2.

I tried a new game after transferring the mods, and started from root file without logging into the launcher. I did not notice a huge difference in performance but it's there. Daily stutter still exists, but not as badly anymore. I don't think anything can be done about that as this is due to engine limitations.
