This isn't a question, more of a discussion jump off for everyone's experiences.
I didn't have high hopes for the Bolian Federation, but it's been my most interesting play through so far.
My last attempt at a peaceful empire went spectacularly poorly in a amazingly short period of time. Of course, it was my first play through, so that's to be expected.
But all my other attempts I've played as authoritarian. I was hated by my neighbors. My need to protect my borders from everyone sucked up all my research and energy.
This time I went the Pacifist xenophile route and started by building tall. It's amazing how different my experience has been.
I got lucky on some weird RNG. My most hostile neighbor only has one access point to my empire and I was able to stop that up quickly. The major route to the rest of the galaxy is stopped up by a couple of nasty gem swarms.
My other neighbor hates me for some reason I can't figure out, but he's a pacifist and hasn't been much of a bother. I even have some of their people living on my worlds.
I've had four primitive races in my space. The first didn't end well. I could only watch as they nuked themselves into oblivion.
Two more have similar pre-space tech levels and are in systems right next to each other. That area of space was my most recent acquisition. Hopefully I can keep them from killing each other and add their uniqueness to my own.
The last I am in the process of uplifting. They are right on the border with the angry pacifists.
As soon as I can get rid of a frontier outpost, I'll be adding my first alien empire to my federation. Just the first of many.
Despite playing the nice guy, my decision to start the game playing tall before expanding means I'm doing much better militarily than any of my other playthroughs. I'm in the upper third in fleet size, fleet level and tech. My hostile neighbors stopped flinging insults a long time ago.
I found a ringworld!! It's way too tough for me to take on right now, but i look forward to adding that as well.
I really can't believe how many systems around me had amoeba ships, ancient mining drone and various gem fleets (sapphire and ruby). I've had more in my immediate space than I've seen in my first four runs combined. Taking out a few of those gave me a nice boost to my defensive tech.
This has been so great. All I'm doing at work right now is watching the clock so I can get back home and play some more.
How goes your run? Anything interesting happening?
