This isn't a question, more of a discussion jump off for everyone's experiences.

I didn't have high hopes for the Bolian Federation, but it's been my most interesting play through so far.

My last attempt at a peaceful empire went spectacularly poorly in a amazingly short period of time. Of course, it was my first play through, so that's to be expected.

But all my other attempts I've played as authoritarian. I was hated by my neighbors. My need to protect my borders from everyone sucked up all my research and energy.

This time I went the Pacifist xenophile route and started by building tall. It's amazing how different my experience has been.

I got lucky on some weird RNG. My most hostile neighbor only has one access point to my empire and I was able to stop that up quickly. The major route to the rest of the galaxy is stopped up by a couple of nasty gem swarms.

My other neighbor hates me for some reason I can't figure out, but he's a pacifist and hasn't been much of a bother. I even have some of their people living on my worlds.

I've had four primitive races in my space. The first didn't end well. I could only watch as they nuked themselves into oblivion.

Two more have similar pre-space tech levels and are in systems right next to each other. That area of space was my most recent acquisition. Hopefully I can keep them from killing each other and add their uniqueness to my own.

The last I am in the process of uplifting. They are right on the border with the angry pacifists.

As soon as I can get rid of a frontier outpost, I'll be adding my first alien empire to my federation. Just the first of many.

Despite playing the nice guy, my decision to start the game playing tall before expanding means I'm doing much better militarily than any of my other playthroughs. I'm in the upper third in fleet size, fleet level and tech. My hostile neighbors stopped flinging insults a long time ago.

I found a ringworld!! It's way too tough for me to take on right now, but i look forward to adding that as well.

I really can't believe how many systems around me had amoeba ships, ancient mining drone and various gem fleets (sapphire and ruby). I've had more in my immediate space than I've seen in my first four runs combined. Taking out a few of those gave me a nice boost to my defensive tech.

This has been so great. All I'm doing at work right now is watching the clock so I can get back home and play some more.

How goes your run? Anything interesting happening?

My militaristic nation declared war on my xenophobe neighbour, though I had the benefit of surprise their equal in power fleet savaged mine, 'note to self early game corvete with no shields vs destoyers with lasers bad ideea', after a hasty retreat with what was left of my fleet I thought all hope was lost, until, my previously placed defense platform guarding a choke point black hole managed to catch the enemy by surprise, my remaining fleet bolstered by the platforms firepower managed to force the enemy into retreat, what followed where 5 years of advances and retreats as I built defense platforms all the way to the enemies colonies. They fought valiantly and frankly in a fleet by fleet battle I would have lost. In the end I subjugated them. 'Tip of the day' defense platforms are great for cutting the enemies reinforcements away, no more sneaky 1 ship fleets bothering your mining stations and colonies. Also useful for ambushes, have your fleet in the nearby systems, wait for the enemy fleet to get pulled in by the defense platform, jump in and ambush them. You can place the defense platform anywhere in the system, the enemy fleet will warp in near it no matter where it is.

I had the same problem, first couple of games I kept restarting everytime I made a mistake or learned something new. Now I just save the game everytime I'm about to do something that might be a big mistake, 'declarations of war, colony placements, yo mama jokes to the local xenophobe warlord'.

I'm currently playing mat/mil/xenopho. The empire name is "Fandat Star Empire". Conversely Fandatuschians only accounted for 36% of the empires population.

Mere 36k fleet power.

Bombarded and invaded pre-ftl planets.

Occasional wars with vassals.

Other empires on other side on galaxy. All but one is superior in tech. Equivalent on everything else. Rather bully the locals.

Downside is that its 2342.

It's amazing how different your game plays depending on your ethics and other starting choices. Talk about replay value.

Indeed. I had five enslaved species and about 70 robots. Economy was a mess. Unrest basically put me in my area and I'm lumbered. Brilliant for constant land armies maneuvers. Well each empire presents its own challenges. Next I plan to go tallish and research heavy.

Haven't checked yet if it's possible to place a defense platform nest to your home planets starbase, if yes, you could pull in all the nomadic aliens and early enemy fleets, devastate them with the starbases sheer raw power.

I think that if there is already a station in orbit you cannot place additional structures. Just tried placing a smaller defence station above my capital planet but cannot place within the red circle zone, with the existing space station at the centre. Basically, can't build within thered circle.

Running two main empires at the moment, the Imperium of Kronus; a race of humanoid elves that are materialism, militaristic and authoritarian with a imperial government of course. As well as the Hierarchy of Kronus still working on their background, since they're human gonna role play them into one of the Ark ships from Earth. They are fanatic materialistic and militaristic with an imperial government as well. (I'm not fond of democracies that require me to spend lots of influence every 10 years just so another leader isn't pulled into the ruling position)

So far of the 4 games I've played as the Imperium haven't had too much luck, either getting taken out by the Protheryns or the unbidden. 4th start isn't going so well either, with 70 years in and having very little in the way of physics research, still about 4 years away from cruiser tech and only access to teir 2 weapons and armour/ shields as well as power.

The Hierarchy on the other hand is blossoming quite well for its first run, despite awakening the materialistic Fallen Empire to the galactic east with no buffer nation in between, but they have completed the first reconstruction of the Ring World in Cybrex Alpha! Unfortunately the Prethoryns have decided to show up in the galactic north and the other star nations, specifically those in the federation known as the Grand Pact, due to their abrasive nature and the fact that they cut off the Hierarchy's expansion north into the mid west of the galaxy, the Hierarchy was forced to join the Golden Axis federation for protection. Despite the Prethoryns having appeared in the galaxy, the Grand Pact as seen fit to declare war against the Hierarchy and it's allies after a combined fleet of Hierarchy and the pride of the Golden Axis federation fleet of nearly 130k was nearly lost to the awoken empire when the Hierarchy refused subjugation and war was declared, though the 2 fleets were able to sneak into their home systems and cripple their naval yard and the titan they didn't manage to put into their fleet as well as occupy a section of their ring world, their technology far surpassed ours and only a total of 15 battleships remain. This is when the Grand Pact decided to attack catching the frontier worlds off guard and under manned, perhaps they believe they can out run the coming storm to the north by taking over the Hierarchy's territory, but shipyards are a blaze to repel the federation even as one of their members is being consumed by extra-galatic monstrosities.

Sadly the Hierarchy's Magellan class science ships were not able to reverse engineer Tachyon Lances from the many fortresses the fleets had destroyed by the time the 4th Stellar Fleet returned to its defense, crippling the development of the Kronus Mk II class battleships which would have been a great asset to their naval strength. However Head Engeneering Researcher Hydar Salman, is working hard on upgrading the outdated Kinetic Batteries within the year! Plans to retrofit all Kronus and Zeus battleships are under way once the designs are put into production. Some of the military minds want to refit our Talon class destroyers with Flak Artillery to counter the awoken empires many strike craft after reviewing the terrible losses the Othenthi Hegemony suffered defending their worlds from them, but the reports of destroying 9 escort class destroyers and 1 battleship before the awoken empire engaged our fleets suggest long range tactics will win future engagements should they arise again.

For now the Hierarchy is focusing on rebuilding it's fleet to repel the foolish Grand Pact as well as colonizing the newly re-constructed ring world section, hopefully these new ships will not be wasted by the time the Prethoryns are upon us.

My empire is called "ku klux kats" after a previously failed play through and doing meticulous research this one has been much better. We are a materialistic, xenophobic, fanatic authoritarian executive committee of basically cats.

Early in the game I decided to mildly expand at a slow but steady and consistent rate. I conquered and enslaved two default empires that consisted of humanoids and avians, discovered and enlightened a new species which I later also enslaved. Now I have an abundance of resources, and technology is developing at a relatively quick rate. The only other empires are a fallen holy guardian, a pacifist corporation, some mitilarisitc empire and a cockroach species of xenophobic spiritualistic. Everything been going fine except for these damn cockroach xenophobes. They keep declaring war on me, which wouldn't be a problem since their fleet power is inferior, capacity is equal, but their tech is superior. However, they are allies with the pacifist corporation so of course they are forced into a war with me effectively opening a second front, and they are equal in both fleet power and capacity but either superior or overwhelming in tech (can't remember) however, if it wasn't for these annoying cockroaches being pacifist they don't hate me enough to goto war on their own accord. this also wouldn't be an issue if my ships would finish building in my second fleet which would surely make their fleet power pathetic and their allies inferior and therefore too afraid to declare war, in which case I can continue with building up my war machine and destroy them anyway. The other two empires also hate me, both not enough to goto war. One is pathetic and the other is equal, the one that is equal just so happens to hate the cockroaches too, and share a closed border with each other that being their only access to me, so I'm not worried about them, either way they don't hate me enough to goto war and we share some of the same ethics so they just stay in the rival state, so I opened my borders with them to lower the negative opinion.

I have no idea what to do, really don't want to start over I put so much effort into this run. Really could use a command console because clearly I am not the brilliant sociopathic cat I pretend to me and over all have no idea what i am doing, I have no idea how I even have such an overwhemling abundance of resources but still can't construct ships fast enough to scare off the idea of war with the enemy

So much for the Union of Pekona Yal.

And here I thought I was doing so good.

I'm at 2363. I had built up my fleet to 11k...yeah, not awesome, but it was more than I had faced in previous playthroughs (with one exception, and that one had been 12.

As usual, all my allies were on the opposite side of the map and useless to me.

One of my neighbors, the Izirian Council, decided to take me out. I'm like "bring it on!".

His fleet was at 21k....his main fleet. He also had a 12k fleet that I discovered when I restarted and tried a different strategy. To add insult to injury, they were allied with the Bolian Federation to the east....an empire I created.

How? How is it that, no matter what I do, all my neighbors ALWAYS advance faster than me?

I finally had a play through that was producing massive amounts of materials so i could build up my fleet....but there just wasn't time.

Time to try something new. I'm going to try to isolate even further and build even taller this time. I restarted the map until I got a starting area that included three habitable systems. My biggest concern now is the complete lack of resources in my immediate area. I'm going to have to colonize another world quickly if I don't want to "starve".

Down with the Union of Pekona Yal.

Don't be afraid to go in red with your ship if needed as long your energy and minerals stays good .
