For the timeframe of the mod, which types of ships could lay mines?
Before the war, minefields were mostly defensive, laid in home waters, and as such deployed by just about any vessel - merchant ships, old converted cruisers, and the like. Britain used cross-Channel ferries to lay minefields in 1914. However, laying mines in enemy territory was more difficult and needed specialist vessels.

Most navies used destroyers for the work - the Japanese were probably the first to do so, in the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. Britain created the 20th Destroyer Flotilla specifically to lay mines in German-controlled waters in WW1: the destroyers were converted by replacing the aft gun and torpedo tubes with mine rails.

Some other navies used light cruisers for the job. The Germans built a couple of purpose-made minelayers using light cruiser hulls in 1907, but they weren't successful (too slow). Later in the war they came up with better versions.

Finally, mine-laying submarines were probably the most effective tool in the mine war. The Russians were the first to develop these, beginning work on a prototype in 1908 - but the vessel wasn't actually finished before 1915, by which stage the Germans had already deployed mine-laying submarines of their own. Over the course of the war they would launch around a hundred of them.

It's good to see that one from the former mod team is watching the forum. So I think, naval mines will be available as naval brigade. Other naval brigades which possible and fit in this timeframe are Anti-Submarine-Warfare, Fire Control, Improve Armour/Hull and Naval Torpedoes.

Are seaplanes only used for detection? How about carmouflage? I know there was, but I don't know exactly about their development and effectiveness. Do you like the idea to import radar as a secret weapon?

Btw. I asked Allenby to send me all sources and materials of this mod - if you don't know it yet, I want to make a AoD-conversion - that could help me. But he seems to be not acitve anymore. Maybe you know where I get these?

P.S.: I would feel honoured if you left some comments and opinions about my work and ideas. :)

No. I remember that I read about air strikes that were flown by seaplanes from seaplane carriers. I just think these air strikes were not as effective as later with wheeled aircraft from true aircraft carriers.

How about camouflage? I know there was, but I don't know exactly about their development and effectiveness.
I think it was even more effective than in WW II, because detection was more dependent on the sailors' eyes than on technical equipment like radar.

Do you like the idea to import radar as a secret weapon?
Don't know if that's realistic in that timeframe

@schmoemi: Could you leave a comment of the naval tech tree I did LINK. Now I pursue a different concept for seaplane an aircraft carriers. Are you interested in to help with naval unit stats (or anything else)?
I would be proud to be part of the dev team once again

did you ever play mod34?

i think the tech-tree in mod34 is brilliant.
does anyone think it is possible to create a tech-tree similar to that
in mod 34? - and if so, should we go to work?
