Hello everyone,

I tried to look for an existing topic about technology sharing, but all that came up was Stellaris, so I am sorry if it was mentioned / posted already.

I wanted to ask if sharing technology within an Faction is possible. For instance the japanese bought euqipment and blueprints from Germany (mainly tank stuff) for money, and Germany asked for and received assistance in naval research (esp. Carriers).

Countries can donate advanced equipment to each other, that's probably the closest you can get.

There is a national focus in the minor tree that is called technology sharing but what it does I do not know.

Its a bit unfortunate that if for example in a multiplayer game I heavily invest in one tech and my ally invests in another we can't help each other out by sharing our technologies.

Does that require some sort of border-sharing or naval superiority on the way to the ally ?

Only if you want it all to get through intact. :p

Unless you're thousands of miles apart, specialised construction's the way to go.

If two countries are far away, trading/lend-lease requires convoys and is through the sea. If you are in a war, then without naval superiority, many convoys, and thus resources/equipment, will most likely be lost.
Land trade is possible and curiously, it does not require nations to share a border - I remember that in WWW UK vs GER Germany was trading with USSR without using any convoys (so it was a trade through land), even though they did not share a border. Perhaps being on the same continent and having a safe land path between the two countries is enough?

Possibly using trains as the main trade route? Make sense if same continent.

And that's why you can't share, it's balance. Halfing how much each player needs to research and invest is a huge buff.

Update: in today's WWW, early on Hungary's trade with Netherlands and Soviet Union required convoys, even though there were available paths through neutral countries (Hungary -> Germany -> Netherlands and Hungary -> Poland -> USSR). But when Hungary conquered Romania and got a border with the Soviets, trade screen showed 0 convoys necessary to trade with them. Apparently it got changed and is now like this:
a) sharing a border - land trade, 0 convoys needed
b) not sharing a border - sea trade only, convoys required
