Technology Research Points Cost Formula

As I havent found the Tech RP Cost formula anywhere I have tried several experiments. Hope I am not reinventing the wheel here. Figures follow please let me know whether they correspond to your own ingame experience.

Code:
RP Cost Tech Level 1 = 6.815 * (total population)
RP Cost Tech Level 2+ = 4.545 * (total population)

Early research penalty % = (years ahead) ^ 2 * 5

Yes and no:

To ensure were on the same page im using Vae Victis 2.2 and have loaded up Achaean League at the Jan 1st 474 bookmark.

35 population to begin with. Tech cost for Level 1 is 238

First tech level cost ties in with your formula: 35*6.815= 238.525

Second tech level costs start to slip away: 1121 per the game, but assuming I have read your formula right it should be:

(35*6.815)*(((11^2)*5)/100)
(238.525)*(((121)*5)/100)
238.525*6.05
1443.076

Can I ask how you hit upon the 6.815 and 4.545 multipliers?

Also I tried Crete next: they have 25 total population, but Level 1 tech costs of 170: which works with the 6.815 multiplier. Similarly to above its out of sync with the game for tech level 2: 801 actual, 687.43 calculated.

It would seem to me theres mechanics behind the 6.815/4.545 thing. Will check the defines file later to see if theres anything there that affects total cost.

EDIT: Again, I checked Achaean Leage in the 490 bookmark, where they already had the Tech Level 1 and were researching 2. Tech cost was 159: 35 Pops * 4.545 = 159.075 which ties in. So if theres an error on my Level 2 calculations above, its on the years early penalty.

I have checked this again: Your formula is spot on, my calculation of it was in error.

What gave me the slip was the % penalty isnt a straight modifer: a 605% penalty for 11 years early doesnt modify the cost by 605%, it modifies it by 705%.

Other than that, everything checks out as far as I can see. Im still intrigued by the 6.815 and 4.545 figures.

Yes, penalty adds to the basic cost, it doesnt multiply it.
The figures I got by editing my population to something around 100k, thats how I got the 3 decimals. I think the more accurate figures are something like 6.81815 and 4.54545 but as no one hits such gigantic population we can cope with less decimals here.

Wonder why Paradox went with them though - I can see the smaller is two thirds of the larger, but why it drops for researching the second tech level and holds fixed from there on in I dont know.

I assume theres some maths behind the two multipliers, but either way: the formula as is works for predicting tech costs.

Is the Wiki being worked on? Information like this shouldnt simply drop off the radar and have to be figured out all over again.
