The attrition mod has NO effect when stationed in your own provinces. Thus when paired up with a negative attrition mod leader your troops will take less attrition in enemy Arctic/desert provinces than in friendly Arctic/desert provinces. Doesn't make sense, but it's true.

Also I've seen mid org mod leaders lower the base attrition their units take in enemy terrain. Not exactly sure how that works. Lastly, remember that despite the manual's statment that stacking causes no penalty to attrition, it actually does cause a HUGE penalty if you are in an enemy province that you do not control.

P.S. Anyone else notice that the AI seems to cheat (take less attrition losses) at high difficulty levels?

I miss the HOI general system. The more they fight the better they get. It worked really well. Now this new general system is really expensive for my Two Sicilies.

Now units get experiance instead of leaders. HoI didn't last long enough for leaders to die/retire, Vic does.

High reliability also cuts attrition. My soft butcher has 2% desertion with his units opposed to the usual 7% with a general that doesn't modify reliability or attrition.

Also..... Soft butcher? How can you be a soft butcher?

As France, I keep getting generals that are evil/harsh, or something like that...the end result is phenomenal fire and shock (+6 to EACH, I think) but a whopping -6 reliability. I just can't bring myself to put a -6 reliability general in charge of a fourteen-division assualt stack, even though it would pack one HELL of a punch.

*Sigh*
I never worry myself about reliability. I tend to look first for Organization, then Morale, then Attrition and finally Speed....

Never had an army to defect from my side. they always know who the winner will be, it seems! ;)

I once had a polite butcher, so I suppose anything is possible.

"Why hello there, General von Forelle."
"Uh...hey....Marshal Boeuf."
"How are things going? The wife, the kids?"
"Erm...aren't we at war?"
"But there must always be the pleasantries."
"Ah. Yeah, that's true. She's - !"

I have a fondness for the "School of the Bayonet" generals. No good reason though.
