None of my leaders (Generals) shows an attrition-attribute.

non_attrition_leaders.jpg

Up to now (playing Switzerland, 1881) I've recruited more than 30 generals - they showed Defence, Morale, Organisation, Speed, Experience, Reliability ...etc. Attributes - but none of them had a negative, positive or neutral (+0) Attrition mentioning.

QUESTION: Is there a tech I'm missing which would provide leaders with a specific Attrition ?

PS: According to the thread Editing your Generals leaders seem to be generated by random (at least that's my interpretation)

Certain traits give your leaders attition attributes. Its not all that common, but its also not connected to tech. Just the luck of the draw.

Oh- okay - then I'm just having constant bad luck.

Bad luck also concerning the mob of idiots joining the army-leadership:
Our management consists of characters outlined as elderly, incompetent, madman, butcher,
clueless, immoral, corrupt, brownnoser, sucker, sad_sack, unfit and unqualified
.

Not exactly the type of characteristics associated with the leadership of a Great Power's army.

As France, I keep getting generals that are evil/harsh, or something like that...the end result is phenomenal fire and shock (+6 to EACH, I think) but a whopping -6 reliability. I just can't bring myself to put a -6 reliability general in charge of a fourteen-division assualt stack, even though it would pack one HELL of a punch.

*Sigh*

Having only 30 generals also isn't that much. If you have many officer POPs, you'll have generals coming out of your ears and then you can weed out the bad ones... it seems to me like about 1 good general for every 6 bad/neutral ones. And I really like having stellar generals so I pay for it.

"Sad_Sack" and "craven" seems to be the combination I get most

BTW - what does "livylivered" mean... its Probably the worst personality type. I've read mountains of books on history and never heard of a general (or anyine else for that matter) described as "livylivered".

I love the attrition generals. I'm probably wrong but the manpower savings feel like they outdo any other benefits when charging through enemy territory.

Your country will have a list of leaders that you will get. Some countries may not have good attrition leaders. What country are you playing?

I don't believe that Switzerland has a single general in its list...although I haven't yet checked. :D

+ attrition leaders are viable for defence. i had a good general with a possitive attrition mod that i used of defence (ie in my own provinces) and he was great as I was able to use him and his poor attrition mod had little effect on my units.

Gerneraly speaking (no pun intended)
The key to generals isnt so much to try for the best possible combination. the key to good use of generals is to take your current generals and use them in the best possible way. Remember that even a general with purely negative mods can be a boon, Remember that the default general is a peice of crap and all your units should have a general if possible that means that many generals that appear like utter crap are better than teh default general. So dont be too hung up on the trats of a general. Take what you have a maximize its potential.

I know having no general is worse that most bad generals, although I'm not sure what the default attrition mod is, so I might be making a mistake. In general I avoid + attrition generals, even in defence since a good defence often turns into a counter attack :)
