I'm experiencing a bug I've had a few times in the past.

As the Soviets, I'm trying to research Basic Marines (2nd level). However, when I selected Basic Marines and began the research, the tech team started to research Early Airborne. But, the Basic Marines tech is yellow in the tree (indicating it's being researched), while Early Airborne is blue.

When the Early Airborne tech finished, I did not get an indication of it being completed. Early Airborne is still blue on the tech tree, and Basic Marines is still yellow. This effectively means I can never research anything past Early Marines, because BM will remain yellow the entire game, and I can't build anything past it, obviously. This has happened a few times in earlier games (as France I was unable to build Light Carriers, for example) but it's pretty rare.

Can I edit the save file to give me Basic Marines research and open up the rest of the tree? And if so, can someone give me detailed instructions? My last foray into the save files did not end so well...

Thanks. I need these Marines because Germany is dead, and the Allies will soon follow.

Are you running Doomsday or Armageddon and do you have the latest patch? Any mods? If you're using Armageddon did you change any of the game options from the default?

10) If you have enabled Tech Team Takeover and the player/AI releases an annexed country while the player/AI is currently using one of its tech teams for a research project, the game system stops researching the project but still "thinks" it is. This prevents the player/AI from restarting research on that project (players receive a "We are already researching this" message) and starting subsequent projects for which said project is a prerequisite. (CAN ONLY BE FIXED BY PI). Can be manually edited in saved game, but can really hurt the AI in Tech Team Takeover mode since player does not readily monitor AI research.

A browser with tabs (like Opera has had for a few years now) should be able to close it with no problem since you can just close the tab. I don't know how IE7 or Firefox tabs work though.
This should be a bannable offense.

Are you playing with the tech team takeover option and have annexed and then released some country as the bug report describes? If so, the fix is probably to find the part of the save where it lists which tech team is in each slot and change the ID of the teams belonging to the released country to teams that still belong to you.

I'm using firefox and even though the link opened in a new tab, my browser window was moving around so fast that closing it require some fast clicking. And even when you finally clicked on it, a million windows just popped up with bits of the lyrics and eventually made my browser crash, therefore closing all windows and tabs. Frustrating.... to say the least

Anyways thanks for your actions, mods!

Now, if you'll notice, the first project has no tech_team line. I believe this is the Basic Marines being researched. In-game, I currently have 4 techs being researched, the 5th slot (id 3711) is blank.

So, is it simply a matter of adding a tech_team line for the first project, giving it an ID I currently possess, and changing the information in the team_slots line to correspond, or is it something else? I've tried this method already (changed 3711 "Nevskoye Design Bureau" to 3714 "Tupolev Design Bureau", and added a tech_team line to the first project with id 3714) but it didn't work. Is there another method?

Or, could I possibly add the tech Basic Marines into the list of already-researched techs and bypass this altogether?

Never mind, I fixed it.

The problem was, when I changed BM's project to 3714, I didn't move 3714 to the 5th position to correspond with where I put it in the tech_slot line. But I got it to work, and everything's good now.

I guess I just have to pay attention to which teams are researching what, and make sure I only have native teams working on stuff unless foreign teams don't stand a chance of being released...

Mod34. I don't know if it's unique to the mod though since I don't normally play Britain; it just happens to be the first country in the savegame.
