I'm in my first playthrough on 2.2, looking to repair the cybrex ringworld, and so need megaengineering.

I just researched cruisers. Checking the techweights eng (console) , theres no entry for battleships tech.

Previously, cruisers tech was the only prerequisite for battleships, which were in turn a prereq for megaengineering.

Also, I researched star fortress, but there is no techweight entry for citadel (which I believe used to be another prereq for ME).

So my question is, what is the new path to ME?

Alright, but according to that image, the prereqs for ME are battleships, zeropoint, and citadel. And the prereqs for citadel is fortress, for battleships cruisers.

So why don't I have techweights for battleships and citadels?
I'm not aware how the console command works. Take into account that both techs have severe weight reduction prior year 2270, maybe that's why you do not see it?

I believe the techweights command show everything > 0 % chance of rolling... Also the year is 2294.

Is ME locked behind ascension perk now? That would mean you have to pick voidborne first... I hope that's not the case.

Is there something else needed for battleshiops and citadels?

No, I got it without any space construction perks with the Cybrex ringworld (though it took at least half a dozen rolls even with maniac researcher).

Looking at game files, battleships need cruisers and citadel needs the previous fortress, the rest are weight modifiers.

It's not locked behind anything but pre-requisites and has a really low weight.

Nevertheless, getting it via Master Builders AP is the most reliable way.

That tech is tier 5. You need a certain amount of tier 4 techs before you can get tier 5.

I have gotten ME both in 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 without taking voidborn/masterbuilder first.

Alright, great, thanks.

But then I suppose the question becomes simply: why dont I see battleships or star fortress? Those are tier 4 right? Do I need more T3 techs first?

You need 6 techs in a tier (within each category) to show the next tier, so if you don't have 6 T3 Engineering techs yet, that would be the reason.

Nevertheless, getting it via Master Builders AP is the most reliable way.

Note that having a Megastructure (even a ruined one) in your territory gives a huge weight to the tech. Ruined megastructures are a bit more common in 2.2 I think, now there are more kinds of them. So sure, if you absolutely must have megastructures ASAP, then get Voidborne->Master Builders. But otherwise, if you just want to get Galactic Wonders without investing heavily in APs, then finding a ruined megastructure is usually the way to go.
