I just started a 1936 game as the UK, and they have 8 tech team slots available from the start.

Have you tried using all of them? Didn't somebody post earlier than if you do that, your production basically stops. Personally I would rather have the old system where I had 5 slots but research had no effect on my IC. Just wistfull thinking I guess :(. I really don't understand why developers had to change/over-complicate old HoI 2 research rules when they obviously worked fine in that game.

Yeah, using all the slots completely wrecked my economy. I'm still getting used to some of the new gameplay mechanics in AoD, but money is FAR more important than in HoI2. Research drains your cash reserves much quicker, requiring you to up CG spending, which in turn prevents you from producing sufficient quantities of supplies, which resorts in your armed forces being out of supply constantly and your dissent increasing.

Dang. Guess I have to rework some of my old HoI powergaming tricks. SO money is basically King now?

True, but remember that reducing research efficiency to 75% will reduce the cost to 50%.

As the Soviet Union, I can run 8 techs at 75% efficiency without tanking my economy. Occasionally I can use 9, but I'm not sure why I can sometimes have 8 and other times have 9

Pretty much. I quite like it myself, and it definitely makes playing a democracy more of a challenge in the run up to the war.

This is true, although I found that it still wasn't enough. Also, this strikes me as being a bit unintended, and I suspect that it'll probably be patched at some point. But I may be wrong. :)

The 50% Cost = 75% Efficiency is WAD

Tested UK -36 and yes. You can have many recerch slots but you need money. I left some slots empty (took only 36 and few 37 inventions) and reduced funding to get production started.

This fit my sense of history. At -30's military funding budged was very limited in UK (to compare Germany at same time). Blenheim was good example. Private project was able to produce bomber which was able to outmanoeuvre all RAF current fighters. Same thing at USA, huge country and limited budget.

When war started tide was turned. Arsenal of Democracy is fine name of game like this.

Consumer goods will produce the bulk of your cash, but it comes from other sources too. There's trade, as always, but it now also comes from unused manpower to a small degree.

I heard from a friend that some nations can research more than 5 tech at same time ? Is it true or only wishfull thinking ?
Yes, and just like in HoI2 the amount you get is based on your Base Industrial Capacity (Before modifiers).

0-19 Base IC = 1 Techteam
20-39 Base IC = 2 Techteams
40-59 Base IC = 3 Techteams
60-79 Base IC = 4 Techteams
80-99 Base IC = 5 Techteams
100-119 Base IC = 6 Techteams
120-139 Base IC = 7 Techteams
140-159 Base IC = 8 Techteams
160-179 Base IC = 9 Techteams
180+ Base IC = 10 Techteams
