Ok, here's my idea:

Use Bizet's Carmen Suite Nº1-Les Toreadors, as it gives a 19th Century optimistic feel, than use 3D scenes, NOT GAME FOOTAGE WITH TEXT OVER IT, it is just a teaser.

On the first part, use action scenes, like ships, explorers, gigantic factory floors full of workers, but save war for later.

Then, when it slows down, use building and trading scenes.

When it picks up pace, use trains and political rallies

On the other slow part, use party leaders plotting, anarchists making bombs and capitalists counting money.

Then on the finale, use the best scenes, like war, revolutions and big ****ing trains. When the music is about to end, pan the camera to the sky and "victoria II" appears. This would be best used if there is a world war 1 scene with a storm sky, or a revolution with people swinging banners all over buildings.

And please, nothing similar to the Victoria Intro (some may not know, but it exists) and no game footage with text over it, that, of course, can be used in the real trailer.

If that was a teaser it would be misleading.

I hope you mean intro.

And who really cares? Most people will just disable it.

True, just a waste of time except for those that live off "eye candy". I add the "_old" suffix to that file ever time....

HELLO PARADOX

Please have the teaser rendered by ILM and narrated by James Earl Jones.

Also, I'd like a pony. Made of gold.

I'll continue to post other useful ways to spend your limited development budget as I think of them.

Actually, it doesn't have a narrator

Also, I'd like a pony. Made of gold.
You too ? That's great :D

I'll continue to post other useful ways to spend your limited development budget as I think of them.
Consumer eye-candy is a rather important way to spend budget, it helps bringing more consumers, and that gets the company more money, what makes sure the posterior games (CK2, Vic2 expansions) will have even more budget, avaible production time and testing, generally improving it's quality. Also, they will have more avaible money to produce patches

The importance of marketing is truly exemplified by Dragon Age :Origins. Despite not belonging to a mainstream genre, it's marketing campaign made it extremely popular. Of course, that campaign was funded by EA, and had more money into it than a paradox game budget, but even if small, a marketing campaign is important to bring more consumers.

Of course, this is tottally on paradox's hands, and my suggestion was for the case they were planning to make a teaser

Also, for the ones who are saying this would be misleading, this is a teaser, not a trailer. Teasers are just for announcement and giving a feel of what the game is about. Trailers are for really showing the game and it's mechanics.

The thing is that a several minute long high quality 3D trailer would probably cost almost as much as Victoria's 2 entire budget (I'm guessing here, but I bet it would be close).

Actually if they want to go the Dragon Age route they should license that Marilyn Manson song and have blood splatters and half-naked women everywhere. VICTORIA 2: BLOOD RECKONING - EXTREME EDITION!

I'm done. Lost faith in everything. RPG is not a mainstream.

Yeah, there's nothing else to say... In that case, can you please tell me what are the mainstreams?

And to make this post important to the topic :

I don't care what teaser and/or intro they make. They'll probably stick to what they know is good (Some trains, guys with awesome mustaches, etc. for intro) and CONCENTRATE ON THE GAME ITSELF AS THAT'S WHAT THEY DO BEST.

And putting the Dragon Age and Victoria on the same scale is a little too much. Oh, wait. You said RPGs are not mainstream.

EDIT: I know I may be a little over-reacting. But that group of people that plays RPGs is big enough for RPGs to be mainstream. Paradox games on the other hand don't have so much fans.

Two minute long actually. And who said high quality?

@Vesimir

Rpgs are still niche when compared to FPS and Nintendo games. Except if you consider pokemon a RPG, but that doesn't have anything to do with Dragon Age

Have an advertisement that represents what the game is about, union strikes, factories, maybe supression of a revolt in british india maybe the civil war, louis napoleon or bismark or someone giving a speech and then maybe to show changing history the red flag flying in rome or washington or something.
But still that wont guarentee the support of the distrubuters or visibility to the game. Best they put all their time into making the best damn game ever seen rather than getting stuck on the pretty sidelines.

I didn't know that World of Warcraft was a niche game.

And I think the trailers for recent Paradox games have been fine. In fact, I would rather see in-game footage than unrelated video.

What about Final Fantasy? That's quite a niche series. The Elder Scrolls? Knights of the Old Republic? World of Warcraft?

I agree with the guy above. I'd prefer to see what's in my game as opposed to stylised pictures and videos that bare no relation to the game. Paradox do fine.
