Settlements could have been Jon Shafer's game. Since that seems a plausible name for a game by someone who was designer for Civ V.

That was a very good lead but...

If you go to https://www.tmdn.org/tmview/welcome, and look up Paradox Interactive AB, you can also find the "Settlements" but if you click on it, you can see that it is about some rights transferred from White Wolf Intertainment AB to Paradox Interactive AB. So it is a litteral legal settlement between those companies.

In addition, Shafer left Paradox on november 2017, and was only in the studio for "six months". That would mean that he was hired on may 2017. Settlements was registered on april 2017. It seems the dates don't match, unfortunately. I don't see how he could have pushed a project for official registration in such er... "short" time.

I always just thought this was a kick into HoI IV direction, since atleast the Generic Focus Tree heavily favours Faschism over Communism.

But the Soldier is identifiable WW1?

I think that Jon Shafer is not a part of Paradox Interactive anymore.

In WIPO, there is an information about "Settlements" that it is also a book. There are no "Surviving Mars" themed books, so it means that either there is going to be a "SM" book or the name of the new game is "Settlements" and they are going to publish a book about it.

But it's also registered under the "video game, software" category.

I've been waiting for another railroad building sim ever since Sid Meier's Railroads turned out to be such a spectacular disappointment. A new railroad sim would about the only thing that would lessen the pain of not having Vicky 3.

If you compare the categories between Stellaris and Settlements with this website http://www.wipo.int/branddb/en/# this is what you will find :

Stellaris : "9. computer game software; video game software; downloadable publications in relation to computer games."

Settlements : "9. Video game programs; Games software; Application software for mobile phones; Downloadable electronic books; E-books."

It seems Settlements is something about mobile phone games after all...

That's just Class 16, videogames is class 9, they are different. Settlements was registered by White Wolf in April 2017, and bought/transferred to PDX in August. I now doubt it will be the PDS game announced on the 19th.

Oh dear, now we know it almost definitely isn't Victoria III, not with a teaser like that . Based on the teaser alone, and it being Johan, I predict a first-person swordfighting game .

Slightly more seriously, based on the clues so far:
- Is it popular demand.
- Johan as designer.
- there will be minorities.
- Spelling the name of the game is rather easy.
- The amount of each goods produced is important.

We don't know a heap (Crusader Kings is about the only PDS IP, Johan as designer aside, that couldn't fit these criterion). They point more strongly to a Victoria-era game (perhaps, and I'd argue preferably from a marketing perspective, and also perhaps a 'fresh design slate' as well, depending on what they're coming up with - so it's not technically Victoria III) - but this is only marginally more probably at the moment than Barbie Horse Adventures Stable Manager .

I'm also looking at a pattern now. Stellaris was first registered for the European market (EM) in june 2015, a year before its release. Settlements is only registered in Europe at the moment too, and the release of Johan's project is probably six months away now, so... well, I don't know. Suriving Mars description goes like this : "a sci-fi settlement builder all about colonizing Mars (...)". I can't help but think that those two are directly related, and they would not make the same mistake twice with such an obvious leak (unless they don't have a choice, legally speaking).

The Stellaris name was registered Friday a week before the game announcement, someone found it on equipo and posted the link on the teaser page Sunday. We were trolling the hints back for a week with the actual name of the game.

Surviving mars they cut it closer and it hit the trademark sites early Thursday. I knew the name a day before the Friday release but since nobody was blabbing the news on the last teaser thread I kept quiet. (It was making the rounds on the twitter comments and one other forum though.) I did start posting about whether I could “survive” this game though. I’m not totally good.
