If it is Victoria III, I'll actually be disappointed - not because I don't want that game to happen (I really do), but because it would mean Paradox has begun lying us straight to the face (ref. the PdxCon announcement ages ago), and that's not a good sign.

That said, I'm certain Johan chose that sentence very carefully for maximum hype and misdirection, even phrasing it as a question (to which the answer could potentially be 'no', to indicate a new intellectual property we didn't see coming - Runemaster (rest its soul) was a fair bit outside the box of Pdx' in-house portfolio, so it might even be something other than strategy).

There is one thing we can be absolutely certain of at this point, though. This game will be real-time, given Johan's aversion to turn-based designs.

Popular demand is such a troll on Vickyphiles. But seems like there may well be Pops in it. Which could be Rome-ish or Modern-ish. Going to lean towards Rome for now

Based upon what we know, I will go with either Rome 2 or a Cold War game. Both are demanded, and neither are Victoria 3 (since it was confirmed V3 wasn't coming this year). As for the reference, that seems to be purely mean, although it does remind me of PDM and the fact that it's creator @Naselus is current absent from the forums, unfortunately.

I pretty much agree with you, if their statement that this was not the year for a Victoria 3 was just them trolling it simply is an uncharacteristically blunt and uncracefull way of trolling meaning they are loosing their edge. On top of that straight out lying would pretty much kill a lot of fun their trolling has because it would make every troll statement meaningless. The only thing that keeps nagging me is the way that Johan seems to have a really hard time not laughing when stating it.

All in all I still feel that what they did with that announcement was the right move; just a striaght forward case of managing expectations. They told all the Vickyphiles just how it is, no Vicky. That gave them a free reign to commence the trolling and riding us Romophiles untill there is no tomorrow (hopefully with a nice conclusion to it).
