So the other day my friends bought hoi4, I of course want to teach them how to play but I don't know which country would be fun and also teachable to them, I was thinking of going USA, Mexico and Canada or Sweden, Norway and Finland but idk, I know they should figure out how to play on their own time but they aren't like that their only into the multiplayer aspects

Romania is a surprisingly solid nation from my experience and if you flip communist you have the soviet union at your back as well (especially useful if you play soviet), you don't even need to give up transylvania. You can quickly take bulgaria and other balkan nations that you start off stronger than as sort of practice wars before the main show. It's also not too overwhelming. Other nation could be one of the baltic ones or something. Maybe finland taking a friendlier stance with the soviets.

USA is good for a beginner. You can either go historical and help out the UK with little risk to yourself, or you can flip your government and take over the Western hemisphere.

But if you want to learn quickly there's no better nation than Germany. It's scary for newcomers to be in the driver's seat, but you'll swiftly learn everything you need to know. They're also the strongest nation in the game, and are even more OP with MEFO bills.

I'd suggest USA first to get your bearings, then jumping right into Germany.

Italy is always great - and if you want to take Germany, you two can co-op and help each other out as well. In a war right off the bat (a small one), decent navy, has some potential victims nearby in Yugoslavia and the Balkans...
