I normally use combat grouops consisting of 3 divisions worth of tanks and Mechs.
The problem is that the tanks, even with their speed nerfed as much as possibile (both more power and heavy armor) are still a good 2 points faster than the Mechs. Is there a way to avoid the tank arriving alone in the conquered province apart from grouping them together?

I think you chose speed improvement techs for tanks. Why it is important ? In open plain, it shouldn't make much different.

I choose nothing that makes them any faster than i have too.
In open plain it makes enough of a difference to see my troops defeated piece-meal.

you can use synhronized arrival option then. This way, your troops under this option, will move according to the lowest speed unit. But, in my personal opinion,it is not good to limit the speed of tanks. If I will attack heavily fortified position which is expected to be counterattacked immediately then I would use infantry with artillery.

i wouldnt use mechs with tanks. they dont get the CA bonus. all tank (extra speed) or 1tank/2motAC (CA) or 2tank/1motAC (CA)

it should be noted ACs are vital for mots that tag with tanks. the heavy fighting tanks usually endure means the mots will take heavy casualties

i always research all the techs to make tanks go faster, even when playing someone other than russia.

SP RArt is as good as Acs as far as Toughness, Defensiveness and softness reduction is concerned. Speed is higher, but Hard
- and Soft attack is MUCH higher. And since those are the important values: don't pick ACs pick SP RArt.

But Klausewitz, only a few nations have the research capability to research what is needed for SP RArt. Where what is needed for ACs is alot less in the research belt and doesn't require alot of non-needed technologies for armor themselves.

I agree...if I can afford it via research and cost...go for the best. But there is a fine line to getting what is needed and researched in a timely manner. Also SP RArt doesn't add speed to the unit it is attached to as does AC. AC is also cheaper and quicker to build.
