I have noticed that tanks tend to when they get stressed out, not to reverse but will turn around presenting the side and rear while still in sight of the enemy. . . I noticed this being a problem when I used my Crocodile in a village.

Would it be more realistic if they reversed until they were no longer under fire and then turned around?

I've witnessed this happen sometimes with Churchills. They panic, then they start Falling Back, but instead of reversing, they sloooooowly turn and then start driving away. It's hilarious when it's me doing the shooting, since the side and rear armour can be penetrated better.

Had my jumbo turn around and expose its rear to try and run away from a marder 2. Was quite a stressful experience. i dont think thats very realistic or how its even supposed to work really.

Could it be with some models that they are impoosible to reverse cause of driver vision?
Reversing tanks is conducted blind from the perspective of the driver, the commander looks to the rear using periscopes (or hatch up if the rear periscopes are inoperable), dictates the speed of the reverse, and gives the driver left or right stick commands.

I've had a "falling back" StuG drive across a bridge, towards additional enemy units I should add, perpendicular to enemy tanks and get side shot in doing so.
Some units tend to exhibit rather odd behaviour when falling back on occasion.

I ve had a similar issue with some Panzer IV. Luckily it doesnt seem to be a rule but a very frustrating incident that can happen from time to time.

In any case: I agree with the "w:ee moral retardation"... Its sad that there is no different approach than that...

For example:
Units that want to "fall back" will not do anything anymore except moving backwards until they can recover their morale. So the Player has to command them to reverse instead of the stupid pathfinding AI.

Hi, can you provide me replays and timestamps when this frustrating behaviour shows up ? I've seen this from time to time when the tank is focused by two different ennemies from different angles and when the tank tries to hide behind a heavy forest, but every situation will help us to improve the stressed behaviour.

Here's an example from yesterday.
- It happens just after 00:19:00 (replay time)
- The_MonkeyKings Bef. Panzer III H gets stunned by Field Marshal Montgomerys Typhoon
- The Panzer III was facing the enemy but after it got stunned it reverses for 1s but then makes a 180° turn in full view of possible enemies and drives away to cover (cover was very close and there was no need to do anything but to reverse a bit)
- In this case there was no enemies close enough to exploit the mistake, but I could not currently find a replay of this. (It has happened)

I hope this is fixed by the time the game is released. I've grown my share of grey hairs from units in Company of Heroes being pinned by an enemy MG for then to crawl... towards said MG. I don't mind units "panicking" and then doing things on their own without the player being able to give orders to them, but it has to work right.

Thank you for sharing TheUrkkiMan, i'll have a look to the replay.
Feel free to share more replays with the same problem.
Ok, now we found/played THE perfect example replay for this (this time with two examples):

1st one:
- It starts just after 00:21:25, lasts till 00:22:50
- The_MonkeyKings two Bef. Panzer III H get stunned by Blackbirds P-38 lightning
- The Panzer IIIs were facing the enemy but after they got stunned they reverse for couple seconds but then turn their backs to the visible and firing enemy. This happens multiple times during the stun period.

2nd
- It happens just after 00:24:25
- The_MonkeyKings Bef. Panzer III H gets stunned by Spitfire MK IX
- same reaction as before

Watch the 2nd replay this morning, the Bef Panzer III turn back when hit by planes, move a little and then turn back again. They should reverse, we are working on it.

My tanks usually tend to reverse into my lines or stay pinned facing the enemy (even with the falling back status), thankfully.
In a game last night I had 3 Panthers get killed by about 15 rocket planes and 2 Calliopes because they had "falling back" but refused to actually go anywhere.
