Tank pack dlcs: worth the upgrade price?

I'm pretty sold on eventually buying this game but I am debating whether I want to buy the base version (cadet) or go up a step in pre-order to get the tank packs. While t hey are pretty, I wonder what they really add to the game or what ill miss without them. Now I am someone who played counters in 2 or 3 . Just wondering about people's thoughts. Yes I know it is subjective and based on preference. However, just trying to process , and curious on input that might help me make an informed purchase decision here.

No, it's not something I will support, and especially as @podcat has confirmed that the major powers' navies won't even have 2D art assets unless you buy the content packs. 3D models is one thing, but not even having 2D pictures - which all the tanks and planes get - in the base game is totally unfair.

I think it wont change your experience at all but it add a lot if you like the art.

You are only missing out on 3d models of tanks. By default you have 3 models per nation, 1 light, 1 medium and 1 heavy. For germany for example that would be the pzII representing light tanks, the pzIV representing medium tanks and the Tiger 1 representing heavy tanks. With the packs you get 12 models, so the entire tree is representing by 3d models.

I would really like that you quote that statement, since the pack clearly states 7 3d models and doesnt say anything about 2d models.

The majors already have unique 2d art (and 3D art) in game, plus Poland too.

Majors don't have unique art for navy, and variants, Minors don't even have any art for their units at all...

I understand Paradox wanting to sell 3D models as cosmetic DLC, and I think that is fair for those who want to buy them, but not having even 2D naval art for the major powers' ships (especially the famous battleships and carriers) is really strange, and very disappointing. We have nice art for Shermans, T-34s and Panzer IVs, and of course for all the planes... so why not for our ships, @podcat @Sideburnout ?

I am happy to not buy the extra 3D models, but please do not make us have to pay for basic 2D artwork for ships... :|

If time was a concern element for the naval 2d or any 2d then they should have promised it as later free patch content not throw it in with dlc. After all they made a big deal of taking away photos and if they aren't going to replace them with accurate artwork then to me the game got downgraded from its predecessors. Well, if that is the case, then I think I made my decision. I won't even buy the cadet version for now. Ill stick with dh and hoi3.

I have been called a fanboy for patiently supporting paradox for less than complete releases and for their doc model. But to me this is going too far. Keep the dlc to 3d map units. Give your customers a little more respect .

I don't mind the sprite packs personally, but the value of cosmetic dlc is very much in the eye of the beholder, and it's hard to say whether some one will or won't enjoy having it.

The 2d navy art being generic is a disappointing choice (one of the few dings against the game in my opinion), but it is minor and hopefully at least some kind of solution will appear: it's not like there isn't tons of sideview 2d art that couldn't be used as a reference from prior games (like PTO, WitP, Pacific General) or Jane's fighting ships for that matter. Generic art for the minors would also have been nicer than the black silhouettes as well. I understanding running out of time and having priorities for how art should be completed, but it'd be nice to know if at least some of the 2d art work is planned on being fleshed out.

AFAIK, only some of the Polish minister/leader portraits are DLC so far, but it's free DLC everyone gets so it's sort of irrelevant.

From what @podcat said - and I hope I have not misunderstood him here - the only unique 2D naval art is part of the pre-order content pack, and only for vessels that have 3D models. I think I've got that right.

We've all seen the generic 2D art (it's been in numerous screenshots and streams) which it seems will be shared by all nations, so for example you won't see any artwork for USS Yorktown, HMS Prince of Wales or the Bismarck, in the way that we do have artwork for T-34s or Tiger tanks.

If they can't even fill in all of the vacancies they made by taking out photos with free art , then they won t even get my support for the base game.

I like having *all* the DLC/art/models; I, uh, accidentally purchased all the cosmetic DLC for Vicky 2. That being said, always played HoI3 with counters, simply because it actually added something to that game (vital information about units being easily available), but I think HoI4 has been designed so you can play with unit models without missing any information (there are little info boxes to go along with the units).

Totally your choice, but I genuinely don't think the current version (yes, even the generic 2D naval non-pictures for minors) requires the cosmetic DLC for immersion, it'll just add a little. (Plus I want to watch the German military upgrade, instead of just using the same models throughout the game... mmmm Panthers...)
