That's the joke, most of us should be running SSDs now surely? It is the 3rd Millenium now@lordpepper.You have 3 hdd (apart from ssd),

Not to mention actually invented the tech you're so brazenly disregardingSpinning disks? You talk about that stuff, they used in the last millennium? That millennium where they also rode on horses and wore iron armor suits?
Closer to 6th or 7th, depending on who's calendar you're using. That's the joke, most of us should be running SSDs now surely? It is the 3rd Millenium now![]()

I think it was a figure of speech. If theres a bug in the platform it would still access your other drives wether they be SSD's or hybrid drives. It's something to consider with SSD's as well because the more times they're accessed the shorter their lifespan. Not to mention actually invented the tech you're so brazenly disregardingOh, and learned to fly, went to the moon, and invented the Internet
Personally I have two SSDs and a hybrid SSD/HDD in my system. Spinning disks are still the cheapest way to store large amounts of data.
Although to be fair, it sounded like even if said bug is still around it would only read the drive. The technology involved has a far higher tolerance for reads than writes, so it likely wouldn't be a factor at all.I think it was a figure of speech. Mechanical drives gave MTBF Mean Time Before Failure , SSD's have TBW Terra Bytes Written. I use my PC so much I typically exceed TBW in a years time on drives that have values around 300. If the game engine beats up all our drives... It could be a bad thing.
FYI
Sure. Then again, one of those SSDs I mentioned is an OCZ Vertex 2 SATA II 3.5" 120GB SSD from 2011; it has been my system drive (C: ) for seven years now without a hitch.I think it was a figure of speech. Nope. Sitting in iron giants, with a control console.Isn't this game basically people wearing iron armor suits?
Not any more. In current canon you do suit up - in a full-body cooling suit. The "cooling vest and underwear" aesthetic has been largely retconned (sadly).Nope. Sitting in iron giants, with a control console.
The pre-order banner at the top of the forum actually annoys me. You don't 'suit up' to pilot a battlemech. Because of the heat concerns, you strip down.
Kinda like still suits in Dune? Not any more. In current canon you do suit up - in a full-body cooling suit. The "cooling vest and underwear" aesthetic has been largely retconned (sadly).
One more reason to be glad we're dealing with Jordan and the classics, rather than current 'canon,' then. Not any more. In current canon you do suit up - in a full-body cooling suit. The "cooling vest and underwear" aesthetic has been largely retconned (sadly).
Hey now, no Era-shaming! Some people seem to like those hybrid clan empires and religious cyber-suicide bombers, and who are we to say they're having fun the wrong way?One more reason to be glad we're dealing with Jordan and the classics, rather than current 'canon,' then.
Catalyst can do whatever they want in their unrelated setting filled with hybrid clan empires and religious cyber-suicide bombers.
TBH, the whole cooling suit makes far more sense than wearing less clothes if the problem is heat. And it steers well clear of the, well lets say issues, that come about when you depict the males in vests and shorts and the females in bikinis. One more reason to be glad we're dealing with Jordan and the classics, rather than current 'canon,' then.

Honestly, I can't stress this enough... Older tech had much higher tolerances. It's like when HDD's moved from 4200 rpm to 5200... Then 7200. Stuff that used to last over a decade only ended up lasting 3-5 years.Sure. Coolant suits were supposed to be lostech. Perhaps the SLDF suits with integral armor in addition to cooling still are.. in the 3025 era the tech had regressed so much that the materials and knowledge to make MechWarrior combat suits was supposedly lost.Kinda like still suits in Dune?
Thanks, I remember the mech warriors in the MechCommander intro being stripped down so wondered wthCoolant suits were supposed to be lostech.
