Will the taiping rebellion be implemented? It was perhaps the bloodiest conflict of the period, and yes I do say that knowing WW1 took place during this timeframe. The events dealing with taiping rebellion should deal with european intervention, as it was a slight possiblity considering that the leader of the rebellion considered himself the brother of Jesus.
Understandably more effort need be placed on more well known wars but indeed this one should not be forgotten, modern estimates place the casualties at about 20 million during this long conflict.

Betas are subject to NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) and therefore can't answer your question.

Although maybe you'll be lucky and receive an answer from Patric, Johan, or Greven. ;)

Didn't the English in the end help suppress the Taiping rebellion to safeguard their trade?

Yup. At first they were sympathetic to the rebellion for its quasi-Christian aspect. Then they discovered that the rebellion was rabidly anti-opium and decided the Qing weren't so bad after all. They sent in a mercenary army called "Ever-Victorious Army" to help the Qing.

Ideally Western reaction should be dependent on their current position in China. For example historically the Western powers took a neutral/detached attitude towards the rebels. But once it appeared that the rebels might displace the weak central government and thus provide more organized opposition to Western encrochment it threw its weight to the government.

In game terms, the way I'd model this would be to have the Western governments support the rebels only if China is having success repelling Western advances.
