No offense to TW fans but ... eh.

I play it on occassion, but its in no way as immersive as HOI or Vicky. When I play Empire TW... I play it for maybe a hr or two (Multiplayer and Singleplayer) and get tired of it. I then go on with life lol. Paradox games (HOI, Vicky) I play for 3 - 6 hrs in a day... then plan strategies when Im doing real world things. Invade here, defend this, etc.

Go Paradox!

Thats about on hour or 2 more than I can stand to play that horrible game and thats with Darthmod's awesome work.

After ETW I will never purchase another SEGA/CA product and especially a TW game, and I have been a huge fan since Shogun. Shame that such a fun franchise has gone down hill so quick.

While it would be interesting to see Paradox take on tactical level warfare (maybe get the guys who made King Arthur to help? You own them now right?), it would fit the best in it's own series instead of shoving it into an existing one, and work the worst in Vicky

I played Empire TW.. and wondered: Who would want to play a game that you can immediately conquer France just by building up a large stack and pounding Paris... Seriously.. a single-province-France?

I feel like Rome TW might have been the peak of the TW series, or Medieval 2.. (Shogun was also good fun, but the Grand Strategy AI was just... umm... irrational is the only word)

The peak of the Total War series so far has been RTR or SPQR mods for RTW. The level and detail and immersion that the mod community comes up with is what makes the Total War series shine.

Even now, playing Napolean, I'm upset that Europe is bland and lacks important areas in the Coalition campaigns. However, my dissapointment at the lack of Northern Scandanavia, North Africa, Egypt, the Levant, and Anatolia is tempered by the knowledge that shortly, a mod will come out which will fill out the blank areas and restore the Ottoman Empire to more than three lousy provinces.

Now, if Paradox can ever add tactical battles into the CK/EU/VIC/HOI series, they will have created a masterpiece.

On the total war discussion... third age total war and stainless steel are the best mods for the best total war game in my opinion, long live King Kong...

On the original topic... I'm not sure if I want to command an actual tactical battle in Paradox games, bit I would like to see some kind of basic animation while fighting... Something like a bird view and little dots down there in the distance, moving and fighting... :D a simple primitive animation but would increase immersion significantly I think... And it wouldn't be much more complex than current "battle reports", with the walls crumbling and morale bars decreasing etc... A little movement on a little terrain map... that would do it for me :) (especially in CK)

The trouble with tactical combat, to me, is that it'd jack up the time it takes to play by a huge amount. Also, once the player gets some proficiency in it, he will win even over-matched battles against the AI every time.
