Generally keep them separate.

If I'm really worried about enemy interceptors attacking my bombers I sometimes mix one Multi-Role with 3 bombers as they can contribute slightly to strafing enemy troops and dont't crimp the stacks range as much.

escort fighters are not as powerfull as fighters against the enemy interceptor. I always use an all-TAC-ESC and an all-INT army. I was only curious if somebody has found a better tactic. I was asking because in the 1936 scenario the default formations are something like "1cas+2tac+1int".

I also wonder this. I always use 4 INT 4 CAS 4 TAC seperately but not sure if this is the best formation.

I think it's generally bad to mix fighters and bombers. Often you'll just end up keeping the bombers in combat for longer so they take more damage, and of course there's the range problem. I suspect the most efficient way to go is to first do air superiority with pure fighter wings, then bring in TACs to strike airbases so the enemy will be grounded for much longer after engaging.
