Are the system requirements that are up on steam the ones for the game? I seen a post about this before and someone said they were the same as they were for eu4 and could be the same or just a placeholder. I just want to know for sure as at the moment my laptop can run the recommended setting and as this is my most anticipated game for like 2 years now I would be gutted to find out closer to release or at download that they were just a placeholder and i can't run it

I heard that you can't allocate more than 2GB of RAM to the game, so the game should run on most computers.

It is an 32bit application, which limits it to 4gb of user accessable memory. That includes Vram and System Ram. Vram doesnt scale 1:1 tho, and Ram really wont be the issue for the game.

Main improvements will come from better multi-core support (compared to HoI III) and optimizations.

So its possible to play the game with a I3-5005U (2x2,0 GHz), 4 GB Ram, and a Intel HD 5500 Graphic (onboard) ?!
a 350 Euro Notebook can handle this.
sounds good !

IMO, this is just placeholder - devs said, that they expect HoI4 to be a bit more demanding than EU4 and that game is not really playable on system described above.

All of the computer specs mentioned here WILL be able to play Hoi4 but perhaps not so well at full (not limited) speed. The specs will be similar to EU4 and CK2 since its the same engine, though more provinces. Minimum specs can be very low though because its tick-based (each hour in hoi4), so each tick can then take 20+ seconds if need be on a poor system.

I would recommend 4gb+ though, since your pc will have to run the os and the game, and ram usage will be higher for these games (hoi3+black ice mod used 3+ gb ram on my system). If you DONT have enough ram to run though, you will have MASSIVE performance issues and potential crashes.

CPU specs-wise, anything from the Intel Core series (i3, i5, i7) will run it, though those processors have a BIG difference between the worst and best. Better means faster ticks. If you dont have a good enough pc, multiplayer may not work well or at all. Ive not actually played CK2/EU4 multiplayer, so i dont know how that would work on poor performances.

Graphics card shouldnt affect much, since most performance is just processing all those numbers rather than graphic fidelity, but perhaps it could help somewhat. With all that said, HOI4 has some newer features and those MAY require a dedicated video card but I doubt the game would actually REQUIRE one anyway. It shouldnt.

Input, just need mouse and keyboard as youd expect.

Resolution at 1024x768 minimum is easy to do, but id recommend higher at 1600x900 or greater so you can actually see things on the map with those menus (like for aircraft or production) up at the same time.

Operating system, Windows XP or greater (inc Win10), Linux and Mac.

Storage drive speed can help with loading and saving but otherwise just any HDD or SSD will work, as youd expect.

Really, its just CPU performance and RAM capacity that are potential issues for people

sad they went with 32 when almost everyone in the world has moved to 64

@griffor @kuno76 there is no benefit whatsever running HoI IV in 64bit. The only difference is that you lock out an portion of your potential customers. There wouldnt be any differences in performance compared to an 64bit version, since the memory isnt the problem anyway. That what will help out HoI IV alot compared to HoI III is the multi-core support, which has nothing to do with 64bit.

If an Videogame is 64bit only, that mainly comes because big publishers simply mainstream their engines for their games. They need to pump out a new game every year if not more and thus it makes sense for them to simply go straight for the 64bit upgrade of their engine, to prevent future possible downtimes or extra work.

In most cases it all comes down to poor optimization actually. If games need more than 4gb of Ram then it is simply because of very poor coding rather than anything else. Big studios these days simply dont put that much effort in optimizing for the PC, since they frankly dont care and have an quoata to fullfill. They would never delay an game unless they really have to and rather patch it after release for an year into an finished state, because that would make their investors very angry. In the end Consoles dont have insanely powerfull Videocards or alot of Ram in them either and basicly run the same games as PCs do. Software is one of the most, if not the most important aspect of hardware.

Sure, they are capped at 60 (or 30) and usualy arent FullHD, but that should give you an idea how powerfull hardware actually is and how important the software i.e drivers are. It is basicly the same as with a Car, where the engine delivers the horse power and the whole car chassis is the software. With an powerfull engine, but bad transmission you will only get little of that potential power to the road. An 500hp engine might only be able to bring 230hp onto the road with an bad chassis, for example.
