Some good advice - I have assembled all my desktops the past 20 years or so, so I agree only way to get best bang for your budget. I will install the 1GB ram into my laptop, see if it can handle the demo, then if my budget allows it I will build a new system, thanks for recommendations.

I didn't know you had a laptop. I'm really sorry for you, because about 4 years ago I had an 400mhz processor and i know what a pain it is to want a game badly and having it run ( i think crawl is a more appropriate word ) really slow.

Yeah I have my laptop as described above, processor isn't bad for its age and video is capable, just the 1GB ram will be the limiting factor. I think it will run just SLOW. Desktop upgrade is the best option but I cannot afford it this week/month.

Sir John - I think that will run HOI3 - good video and great ram, cpu is only limitation, I'd be curious to know if it does run on that setup.

Hey Im running on a pre built dell with 3 gigs of ram and an integrated grahpics card which as one would expect, sucks. I was wondering if a graphics card I found online would run HOI3 specs provided below

Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce
GPU Series: NVIDIA GeForce 9
GPU/VPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT
RAMDAC: 400 MHz
Maximum Resolution: 2560 x 1600
Video Memory: 1GB
Memory Type: DDR2
Memory Interface: 128-bit
Core Clock: 550 MHz
Memory Clock: 800 MHz
Shader Clock: 1350 MHz
Interface Type: PCI Express 2.0

Can i run it? Thanks.

Get the demo when it comes out. You're sitting pretty close to the bare minimum. My guess is that it will run, though at very slow speeds. It's old, but seems to have the requirements. Upping the RAM to 1-2 GB will help, but the CPU will still constrain performance.

Assuming you've got the other requirements, should tear it apart. Make sure that Dell has a PCI-E slot to put that in, I had a problem upgrading an old Dimension 3000 to play KOTOR back in the day, for just that reason.

Well I am such a ROCK somedays, I used to have an older laptop same manufacturer and somehow I was looking at its model number for my current ones specs. The good news is I discovered this newer laptop (Turion 64 X2) can handle 2 GB RAM and I just got back from the pc store with two new 1 GB DDR2 modules, loaded it in my laptop and viola, FAST! Not a bad upgrade at $40 including tax.

I just loaded up the Rome Demo and it loads much faster. I think I have my HOI3 system already :)

Currently, I have a Macbook Pro with:

2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 667 MHz RAM
256 MB GeForce 8600M GT (core clock speed of 475 MHz)

Would I be able to run HOI3? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, assuming you've got Windows running on that. May be a while before we see a Mac port.

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-HOI3/hearts-of-iron-3?aff=ggnews

According to gamersgate you need either a pentium 4 2.4ghz or QUAD CORE amd 3500+

"Processor: Intel® Pentium® IV 2.4 GHz or AMD 3500+ (quad core)"

What is up with these mistakes about system requirements? First there was the steam link that said HOI3 will require 1gb of video ram, and now this?

This mistake should be removed from gamersgate so people don't get the wrong idea.

Incidentally there is no quad core 3500+ processor and the (single core) athlon 64 3500+ was superior to a 2.4ghz northwood anyhow

EDIT: I just looked at the page again and it also says you need a geforce 8800 series graphics card! Who is making this stuff up? Gosh I guess my 8800gt barely makes the cut! Seriously whoever entered that data should be fired cause you KNOW there are some people who are gonna believe those specs and not buy the game

AMD Anthlon 64X2 5000+ Duel Core Processor 2.6GHZ each core
4GB RAM
1 GB Nvidia GeForce 8600GT with SLI (Geforce8200 256mb) 2nd card

I do believe this will be sufficient to play the only game i will ever need. At Perfect Speeds (until HOI4)

or hybrid SLI so it says-i just like the extra 256mb from the motherboards GPU

Just a lil' bit of advice. Disable it. Hybrid SLI/CF is one of the worst idea GPU markes ever had, well for performance at least. You get microstuttering for at most 2 extra fps. 512mb is huuuge for any card lower than HD4850, because the card just can't process so much data so fast. Think about it, HD4870 ( was ATI high-end until HD4890 showned up, which is now one of the best cards there are ) only has 512 mb GPU memory, and it runs any game maxed out on decent resolutions ( HD ready or lower ).

Your video card has full PS and VS 3.0 support, so it will run it. I don't know about the resolutolution though, because i know virtually nothing of any ATI X series. Also, you have a very low CPU, so it may slow down early in the game. The speed you'll be playing at heavily depends on HoI3's ability to use more than one core effectively. :)
