Synthetic rights

I've been playing through Banks and loving every second of it, until now. My country is a republic that loves all people of all creeds colours and races, except apparently robots? to me it doesn't make sense that i can't have Synths as equals to any other species in my empire, why is this? why make it only materialists? it doesn't seem to make any sense to me, and in fact, would make more sense if being Spiritualists prevented Synth rights, but everyone else got that choice.

Materialist ethos is a specific name for a school of philosophy that proclaim that there is just matter in this universe. Oversimplification, perhaps, but acknowledging that there is nothing that separates a thinking machine from a thinking flesh is something very materialist to do.

This may well be a bug. You might want to contribute to this bug thread here, with a save game additionally if possible. Granted, your issue is largely with the materialist side of things, but regardless, there appears to be some funniness going on with synths and rights settings as it pertains to living standards, etc.

Nah it's definitely not a bug. AI rights are locked to materialists.
