1. At the first stage, do all pops in your empire become cyborgs or just your primary species?
2. At the final stage, do all pops in your empire become synths or just your primary species?
3. What about pops of your primary species (and depending on the answers to 1. and 2., other species in your empire) that are spiritualists? The spiritualist ethic seems to have an abhorrence towards any form of AI tech (with a happiness penalty for even employing simple robots as workers). Will they become cyborgs/synths like everyone else, or no?
3. What about species you conquer after your ascension? Can you turn them into synths as well, or no?
4. What will the AI rebellion think of an empire that has ascended to become fully synthetic? Will it attempt to ally with them or attack them (perhaps because it may not recognize a post-biological species as synthetic, or for a multitude of other reasons)?

Sorry if these questions have been asked already and answered (if they have been, please link me to the answers!). If they haven't been answered, let me know. Also feel free to post any speculations you have as to how the game mechanics will work.

We don't really know that much, but someone collected all of the questions from that particular dev diary and put them in one post, and Wiz answered a few of the questions. He might come back to the thread at some point.

Yeah, I saw that thread the other day. It unfortunately did not answer most of my questions - although given how close to release date it is, I'm not surprised. I'm sure the devs are really busy now.
I'm personally hoping we'll get some cool events for the synthetic ascendancy progression chain. For example, some populations in an emprie (both primary and/or non-primary species, probably with spiritualist ethics since it seems the most opposed to materialism) form a resistant "luddite" group. This group will oppose augmentation and merging with AI tech, perhaps to the point of violent strikes/protests or outright rebellion. Different government/ethics types will be able to respond differently. Xenophobes/militarists/authoritarians would be given options to "neutralize" the dissenters. Egalitarians/xenophiles/pacifists could be prompted with non-violent (or drastically less violent) options to discredit the dissenters' ideology.
I'm sure since this a new feature the event chain may not be so advanced/articulated, but I'm hoping we'll get something similar. I just feel like the spiritualist ethic is not only defined by psionics but also by a strong opposition to the development of AI technology. Not addressing the spiritualist populations in a materialist, synthetic-ascendant empire would be a bit difficult to write off, at least for me.

I think it would be best handled by turning all of your primary species into synths during the first ascendence, then letting you convert others by choice the same way genetic engineering currently works aka special engineering project for pops you want to convert. That seems like the best way to let you control the outcome anyway. Plus I like the idea of having breeding planets where the gene based ppl generate pops, and then you convert the resultant new pops to robots, and send them somewhere else. Or settle new planets with a genetic pop, and convert all the new pops it spawns until the planet is full.

From what I have seen.
I had a secondary species, set as residents (oops). I liberated them after I was cyborged. They remained meatbags, when I completed the ascension.

I have not seen any option to make a second wave of pure forms.

From my experience, all cyborg become synths. Ie, you uplifted some natives giving them "cyborg" trait, and when you're completing the ascension path, they're also ascending
