So, can I take both of these as the same species? I have a custom race whose concept would fit having both of these, as they are essentially a ruling class that has servants and robots do all the heavy lifting.

Any answers to this will be appreciated. Much thanks.

No, you can only start with one or the other.

It's easier to get robots than proles so if you honestly want both, start with syncretic evolution and grab materialist ethos, you'll get robots soon enough. However, given that robots, droids and proles all fulfill the same basic role, having them both is redundant.

it's a flavor thing. It really isn't that important, it is only one of the custom races I have the AI use.

If you do make them syncretic/materialist, robotics would be one of their first techs so you'd get what you wanted. Flavour can be that robots were mostly domestic and artisanal efforts, and were only made in significant enough numbers after the discovery of interstellar travel and the needs of expanding colonies.

Thanks, I like that.
