Hello. I recently purchased SotS Ultimate Collection. I was very excited, I had never heard of the game before, but it sounded like a great game. I even did some research on it and I just had to have it. The specs did not sound too demanding which is good, because I do not have the best of laptops.

However, after multiple attempts with two different disks, I am still having the same problem. When I load the disk the auto screen pops up and says something is in my drive and wants to know if I want to allow the install. I double click it and it asks if I want to allow the program to allow changes to my computer and I click yes. Then another screen pops up asking if I want to start the process and I click yes and then nothing happens. I can hear the fan of my lap top working harder than normal, maybe the disk drive itself as well, but nothing else. No screen asking where I want to download the game or folder to. No loading bar. No nothing. I do Ctrl, Alt, Delete and try to look at my Task Manager and the box pops up, but it is completely empty. I try to shut the box down and it wont go away, just says not responding. I have to do a force restart. I tried doing it more than once, even letting it run for minutes, but still nothing downloads.

Here are my system specs. I think it all matches, the only thing I am not sure of is the integrated graphics card which I have no choice for this laptop. But most games will either let me download the game and then wont play or give me a warning it wont be able to be downloaded, this game just does nothing.

Compaq Presario
CQ60-615DX
Notebook PC
Intel Celeron Processor 900 (2.2GHz)
250GB (7200RPM) Hard Drive
2048MB DDR2 SDRAM (2 Dimm)
Super Multi 8x DVD ("Plus" sign over a "minus" sign) R/RW w/Double Layer Support
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit)

It looks like everything should be ok, except for the integrated graphics card which I have no idea what it is comparable too. I know it is not good... but I would assume it would run this game with at least lowest settings. Any help would be appreciated. The only other problem I can think of is that the game CD has what looks like glue right next to the circle opening. Both CDs had that however. I do not think it is blocking any data, but none the less both games had it and both did not work and did the same thing. I am not even sure why it is even there... looks like sloppy work is the only thing I can think of. There is not a single scratch, the disks look beautiful, except for what looks like glue, but it can not be rubbed off with a soft cloth.

Thank you for your time and patience.

Since we were not the original publishers for Sword of the Stars we do not have a sub forum for that game that I can move this thread to. It does sound like the graphics chip might be the problem, they are not really made for gaming.

You could always try on the developer forums though, they have a support section for SotS: http://www.kerberos-productions.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=13&sid=4d625218077ccdbf9c352a85afc895a7 Give them a dxdiag as well and they'll be able to help you better.

I have a really old laptop, 1.9ghz and intergrated graphics, and SotS runs fine on it, so it is probably ok. But like Kallocain says, Kerberos are the people to ask.

Yes I will do that. I was wondering why there was a SotS2, but no SotS1 forum. In any case, I searched for their main webpage and when I go to "help" or "forum" it sends me here or redirects me or something and I believe the wiki does the same thing. Regardless, I will go to the link you provided and ask the same question there. But what is a "dxdiag". Sorry I am a bit computer illiterate. Also since I do have you attention and you already know my system specs... will it be possible to run SotS2 on it? I know the game is not finished yet, thus maybe the specs will be different in the end, but what do you think?

You go to start, search/run and put "dxdiag" in there. It runs a program that provides info about your computer which tech support people might need to know.

I doubt your computer could run SotS2 though, if it could it would be marginal.
