You mean the 'ethic' of selling a much-anticipated product as-is when you run completely out of money with the promise to support it with patches, as opposed to just canning the whole project?
It's far from ideal, but sure beats the alternative.
Perhaps, but when it comes to Paradox you can never just review a game 'as-is' on release day without inaccuracy. Games they publish have a reputation of being good foundations, but ultimately half-baked on release day and only ending up spectacular after a year or two of patches & expansions. You know we would've flocked to it just as we did - even though, I assume, most of us pre-ordered the game soon after it became available to begin with. Or they could've warned us, the fans, that no - this isn't the game they wanted to ship, it's not ready, but they have to release it, but they wont abandon it. They didn't.
They told us, "here's an amazing game, it's done!". I want to support them, but I get no satisfaction from them trying to sucker me into it with lies and deceit. It makes the entire thing -- shallow. I don't want to support a company that promises honest and frankness and then BS's about the actual release, you know? It's not cool and I admit, my heart is broken.

Well no, all I'm saying is that it's okay to delay reviews past the monday patch. But not much more than that. I mean it's shady that they release the game like this and don't send out review copies, but if they don't do it next (this?) week, then something's definitely up.

Sucks it never filled out its promise, the features are all there but everything in it feels so meaningless, not to mention awkward controls and camera etc.
In fact i probably regret the last 4 or even 5 4X-ish games i purchased, but i love them since MOO2 (Too young for MOO1
) and i'll love them to death if i have to. The only one i ever returned was Armada 2526, which i judged to be not only without promise, but also absurdly deceptive in its advertising screenshots.
Sure hope Kerberos get it right with SOTS 2 though. SOTS1 worked out very well after a pretty bad launch.

Well, I did. I went with a few friends and started a game of SOTS and afterwards, remembered why I was a fan of the series and why I GOT the game. As I said (whether or not you believe me, I really dont care) I WANT the game to WORK
Hey, I did a turn around on the steam factor once I found out the client doesn't have to run to play. Then I find out its directx 10. I have 2 copies of win 7 but I love my xp. So I'm torn again.
Same here w/ Steam et al which may have contributed to the whole anti-SOTS II release. I felt bad and apologized (somewhere) for it.
But I'm on board now with PI and Kerberos in SOTS II. I jumped in after release; after some reflection on the whole thing. I will also buy the DLCs... It's the least I can do.

Yup. And the release of Battlefield 3 in the same week in a world where reviewers are not an infinite resource is completely unrelated too
