EDIT: ^^^^^Echoing leggosboy and Scorcher24.
You mean the 'ethic' of selling a much-anticipated product as-is when you run completely out of money with the promise to support it with patches, as opposed to just canning the whole project?
It's far from ideal, but sure beats the alternative.
It's been pointed out over and over again that a little bit of honesty would've gotten the same thing. "You and everyone else that pre-orders the game gets to play the beta right now". You know we would've flocked to it just as we did - even though, I assume, most of us pre-ordered the game soon after it became available to begin with. Or they could've warned us, the fans, that no - this isn't the game they wanted to ship, it's not ready, but they have to release it, but they wont abandon it. They didn't.
They told us, "here's an amazing game, it's done!". I want to support them, but I get no satisfaction from them trying to sucker me into it with lies and deceit. It makes the entire thing -- shallow. I don't want to support a company that promises honest and frankness and then BS's about the actual release, you know? It's not cool and I admit, my heart is broken.
