It could be very interesting if there existed a mechanism of switching shields according to country's ideology.

For example, almost all eastern European countries were monarchies before WWII. After the war, they became socialistic republics, so they changed their flags and coats of arms. These are some examples:

Yugoslavia:

Yes, that is what I have meant. There could be also alternative shields for all countries, depending on current social and political system.
