Pretty easy question really.

What are the advantages of moving your capital to another place.

I understand it has something to do with removing negative effects by aligning your provinces with your capital. But why would you want to move your capital to a tropical province for example ?

(Also, how do you see what a province is currently set on ? : tropical, sacked etc)

Used to be if the capital is in a tropical province you'd escape the maluses for all tropical provinces you own. As of the betas the income related maluses to tropical provinces are removed anyway though so I'm guessing it's not as good a move from an economical point of view as it used to be.

I added a region for all tropical provinces in my game to see where they are more easily, other than that you can see it in the tooltip for the various values in the province view (as a modifier).

well, in case the powerbase has shifted it's a nice idea to move the capital, especially if it's in a vulnerable position.

As you lose quite a bit of prestige having your capital occupied and (I think, not entirely sure though), you also lose quite a bit of your end year income, it can really be worthwhile. I've done it as burgundy because i was squeezed in between France & Milan. (milan had taken schweiz). Worked wonders in my next wars :D

I've never done it, but I imagine you could also move it if you find most of your income is coming from another continent to remove the 'no land connection' penalty. It might also boost your colonisation chances.

To get nice desicions.

To mention: I was playing Teutonic Order-> Prussia game and when I moved my capital to Brandenburg (just accidentally couse I know it used to be there in EUII) I got Prussian decision -Dicipline +20%. Tested it didn't happen if I stayed in Östpreussen.

If Netherlands has its capital in Amsterdam,it gives 2 great decisions, one of them giving free inflation reduction(really useful for a colonial superpower) and another one is somehow different East India Comapy :)
France also can only apply Move Court to Versailles decision if they have capital at Paris..

Oh,and don't forget that moving your capital changes time your colonist(and merchant?) needs to travel to his destination

And of course, having a capital in wrong culture province will have it assimilated in MTTH of 3000 months. And it needs no neighbouring good cultures or a CoT :)

Switching capital also lets you culture shift if the new capital province is in a province that is wrong culture, and the cumulative tax from that culture provinces is higher than your home culture's provinces. If you play it right, you can do a couple of culture shifts and take advantage of several nation forming decisions and nation-specfic decisions.

idd, that was the case in IN but since HttT the decision "cultural shift" has become impossible for most nations formed through decision or bigger nations.

And as it's mostly these nations that have unique decisions it's become impossible to stack them.

Well if your capital is occupied you take pretty large hits to your force limits of both your navy and army so its generally a good idea to move it if you hav an aggressive enemy on your border that could quickly occupy it. In single player it wouldnt really matter, but in MP it certainly makes a difference. Also how much a province adds to your naval force limits is greatly affected by wether it has a direct land connection to your capital, so if your land is seperated it can be a good idea to move it to where you have the most land connected to increase your force limits. And finally you can move it overseas so you get tax and production of provinces rather than tariffs, which I used to do quite often in games as the Netherlands.

you may want to move it to a better place if you are playing a colonizing heavy game and most of your provinces become overseas
you may want to move it to enact decisions/forme nations by culture changing (like netherlands as hansa)

You may also want to move it if your starting culture/culture group is small or has mediocre value provinces. For example, if you're playing one of the East Aryan countries most of the provinces are bad to mediocre, and you get the 30 percent wrong culture penalty for all the really good provinces in India. If you move your capital to a Hindustani, West Aryan, or Dravidian province you can tap into better values without the penalty.

Really? That sucks.
Well, it depends how you look at it. I find it an improvement as it didn't fit very well with the historical>ahistorical aspect of the game. Changing a country's identity multiple times within a timeframe of 400 years isn't just ahistorical, it's rather absurd. Especially when you go from Ming to Germany or something. Although it is entertaining and fun, yes :)
One can still do it (or whatever one wants) as this game is so easy to mod. By removing NOT = { tag = XXX } from decisions/cultural.txt you can still shift culture with whatever nation you want.
