  • Crusader Kings II
Hi!

I've been playing as a king of Denmark for over 100 years. Somehow when loading a game, I switched my character to an emperor of France. I've read that you can switch your charcter again by simply clicking on it while game's being loaded, but for me it doesn't work. Do you guys know another solution? Oh, maybe new beta patch fixes it?

I got the current game as cloud save.

I only saw this, probably on 2.2 and not one of the betas.
I actually was able to revert. Previously trying to switch back to Umayyad wouldn't work. Before I loaded up the save I went to the Charlemagne age and clicked the Umayyads. Then I loaded up the save and immediately clicked on the Umayyads when the save loaded up. For half a sec I had no ruler then it switched to my previous original ruler.

Said to be fixed in the recent beta, but no idea if it switches your file back. Doubt it.

It doesn't fix the problem if it's already happened.

I guess Paradox should be congratulated on making the only game where players need to regularly back up Ironman saves.

I was playing my first ironman game as a Raja. For some reason my character has switched to a muslim ruler.

I tried loading the game and switching to "my" character by clicking on the map but of course it won't work being ironman. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Really do not want to start again!

Aha! Got it sorted. Tried the suggestion above. Step by step in case it helps this is how to fix:

Choose load game
Navigate to your characters territory and click so you see your portrait
Now load the game and spam click on the territory.

I wonder if this can allow any character to be picked from an ironman save? Not interested to try it, maybe someone else has though?

There was also another explanation how to do it that i found:

(Roughly translated description from the german subforum)

Your are in the first game menu, click 'load'
The map appears, now click any landed title your true ruler holds in your save.
Now go to the load menu, but simply click 'load', without clicking a save file before.
The info box below might now show that achievments are disabled (could be).
Now you select your save file and load it -> your original character should appear.
Click play and go.

In short: select landed title your true character holds, click 'load', choose your save file and load again, play
