Just a random thought I had.

Anyone ever tried a game where the entire colonized world is distributed randomly to human players, to see what happens? I would assume the following would be necessary:

1) players can move their capitals at will (by edit)
2) common culture

It'd be sort of like risk, although a lot more eu2y.

You could still do it where everyone chooses a couple of provinces and keeps going until everyone has a certain amount. :D

you'd probably want randomised goods, tax and MP though, or the game would be over before it even really started.. (everyone would pick in the "rich areas" in terms of MP, tax or gold, and the first one to gain the upper hand in one such an area would probably win hands down)

If you do that, then, you'd probably want to limit the number of "close" provinces you can select or you'd just get 4/5/8/10/20 (depending on number of players) isolated nations (or you'd continue to pick untill the whole world was colonised)

Right, you couldn't keep province data the same.

Good points, randomization would definitely be necessary. I can't imagine the pain in allowing players to pick provinces though :D

Also, rebels would be a real problem on this sort of map, since it'd be hard to get soldiers to your provinces without getting MA through other nations.

This kind of argument, that if so and so then game is won by A or B or C...., is put forward now and then in all sorts of discussion and even by very experienced players like Forzaa.

It is as if the concept of alliance, formal or informal, is an unknown concept

not unknown, I just have little faith in the concept of alliances :p (they either fail, confirming the win, or they lead to an extremely static alliance-pattern, something I dislike aswell)

That, and that I believe that the "problem" (of gaining the upper hand in one area) would probably be more strongly present in such a game than in a normal game.
