The ST look like they got the short straw in that conflict; they gained some territory but all that has left them with is a longer border with Japan and Manchuria but not much else (most importantly direct access to the sea)

I finally caught up...

that was a quick war, even by Chinese standards. Though I predict that we will see a pro-Republican Chinese Republic, or it is turned over to the Fentingens...

I predict he'll liberate Japanese occupied China as a Chinese Republic. Taiwan, Machuria, Xibei San Ma, and Sikiang could also be liberated after the ST is gone to respect the current system.

@ Sumeragi: Korea borders only friendly allied states, so her territorial expansion isn't really likely to happen. As for Indochinese Empire, they are indeed having more problems with ST being closer now.

@ Kaiser Mobius: It's true that ST didn't conquer many industralized areas of China and didn't reach the sea also, but we must not underestimate their power of total popular moblilization.

@ SovietAmerika: Your predictions are very plausible.

@ Karaiskandar: Germans are more worried of direct Syndicalist threat, so those events probably won't really push them into harsh hatred against UNA.

@ talt: That's true, but much depends on other factors too.

@ Nikolai: I hope you enjoy in my story too! ;)

@ Bergioyn: Republic of Formosa doesen't have much to do with IRL Taiwan which is Republic of China in exile. It's much more centered on local identity of Formosa and doesen't really have any claims on mainland China.

@ Razgriz 2K9 & Mr. Santiago: You'll see that in incoming update. ;)

- This is unbelieavable! - Foreign Minister of Fengtien Republic was seriously upset. - President will never accept that! How dare you to make such decisions?!

I'm sure Mister Kim Jong Il will accept that in reasonable way. - Japanese Foreign minister that was presiding the meeting of Chinese parties tried to calm down furious Fengtien envoy. The final phase of negotiations before the conference that would confirm territorial changes in China was ful of tensions. Representative of Fengtien Republic seemed to be the greatest troublemaker in the room.

- I have strict instructions from the President and I our demands need to be enforced, why we Fengtien Republic are not some Manchurian Clique, we are legitimate heir of old Chinese Republic and are representing the power of Chinese unification! - but nothing helped Fengtien wish to become true. In the end, all other factions which already made mutual agreements outvoted the furious Fengtien delegate.

Conference ended with a ceremony that was coordinated with ceremonies in Shanghai and Guangzhou. Guangxi Republic and Republic of China, former Japanese protectorates, were recognized as independent and sovereign states by former overlord Japan and other attendants of the conference. Conference was attended by representatives from all UNA nations and surprisingly, there was even representative from Germany. Offended Tiger of Fengtien changed his mind in the last moment and decided not to boycott the conference.

KMT9.jpg

Guangxi Republic was declared in the Guangxi province where the people of Guangxi gathered around provisional governor General Chen and demanded secession from Japanese protectorate of Republic of China duo to conflicts with central goverment in new capital of Shanghai. Mistakes of central goverment brought the rise of many autonomist movements all around the China, but situation in Guangxi went out of control after central goverment refused to remove the taxes on drying crops on the roofs of farm buildings. Angry farmers quickly got sympathies of other people and provisional governor saw this as oportunity for creating private warlordship. He sided with his people and asked Japanese to allow him secession of Guangxi from Japanese protectorate of Republic of China. Japanese that were not really fond of strong and united China granted creation of Japanese protectorate of Guangxi Republic. Following this example, provisional governor and influental circles of Guangdong asked Japanese for permission to join Guangxi and wish of the rich province was granted. Capital was moved to the Guangzhou which was the new largest city in the country.

KMT11.jpg

Republic of China stayed without two Southern provinces, but provisional central goverment in new capital of Shanghai managed to put down other autonomist movements with guaranteed promises and concessions. Kuomintang which was disbanded before was reformed as a moderate New Kuomintang and many other political parties were formed. Democratic life was established even before the end of Japanese protection, quite diffrently from Guangxi Republic which stayed some kind of warlordship after the independence also and was republic only by name. A new Republic of China with the new constitution and a new capital was born.

KMT12.jpg

Map of East Asia was reshaped.

KMT10.jpg

Japanese were pleased with the new situation. Their inner circle of allies was enlarged and Japan gained access to wast Chinese markets.

KMT16.jpg

German Empire lost important ally in East Asia, but this didn't really bring the crisis between UNA and EuroAsien. The way how the old Kuomintang-lead Republic of China was dragged into fatal conflict woke UNA and EuroAsien from their illusions of strength and safety.

Interesting development in China. Such development promises interesting future ( since I think that currently we have 3 states claiming rule over entire China - Milenarians, Shanghai Republic, Manchurian republic ). Guangxi republic will probably cease to exist during some point in game being merged with either Manchurian Reublic or Shanghai Republic after serving its purpose.

Divided China is Best China! Well, at least for now it is.

I can't wait to see the next surprise you have planned. This Chinese war came pretty much out of nowhere, so it seems like anything could happen now. I especially want to see some action by the ILF, which must now be getting accelerated supply and weapon shipments from the ST regime.

Great update.

Interesting choice with the Guangxi. Japanese foreign policy at the time would probably prefer a disunited Chinese state. Only problem about that logic is that you have a foreboding potential opponent in the Shanqing Tianguo forces.

@ Kaiser Mobius: ILF is otherwise already connected to Internationale via neighbouring Syndicalist Burma, but Syndicalists are careful that their support for ILF doesen't become too notorious as this might bring a lot of trouble. So there is enough support for ILF's survival, but not enough for toppling the imperial regime in Singapore. However, ST joining the game changes the situation a bit. ST is nominally independent of Syndicalist bloc (it has its own alliance with Turkestan) and they might not be so restricted with messing with Indochina.

@ zoli1984: Kim Jong Il has something diffrent in mind. ;)

@ coorta88: Good analyzis, it's true that all Chinese factions, safe for Formosa and Guangxi Republic which are local-oriented entities, are seeing themselves as the Piemont of China.

@ Kurt Steiner: True, his ambitions did not die.

@ Karaiskandar: That's for sure!

@ SovietAmerika: Sorry for strange map (Northern part is messed up a bit), let's just say it's a fault of bad signal of transmition for Canadian and allied officers. ;)

@ Mr. Santiago & Sumeragi: The Kim's ambitions won't stop here! :D

@ Razgriz 2K9: True, hopefully divided Chinese states will be still strong enough to resist the Shangqing Tianguo.

Shenyang / Fengtianfu
15-Jul-08
2300 hrs

Kim Jong Il sat in great comfortable leather chair behind the massive desk. He was thinking of his new position. He was not the President of Fengtien Republic anymore, and he outsmarted everyone. Again. He could not believe his genious plan had really worked. He outsmarted his Japanese quasi-overlords in the past for many times, especially in affairs connected with mutual defense and economy. But now, he came out with a risky plan that would make others sorry for excluding him from his rightful position of the savior of entire China. After he discovered it's not worth to demonstrate the anger by boycotting the Taipei Conference, he hid his fury and started to search for good alternate plan. The solution was dwelling in the West, just on his doorstep.

KMT13.jpg

Mongolian Emperor Ungarn Bagabandi Khan was in fact quite reasonable man and agreed with the plan that was called ''Unification Rainbow Project'' as Kim Jong Il called it. Mongolia and Fengtien Republic were united into one country, the Fengtien Empire. The hybrid of those two states was authoritarian-leaning constitutional monarchy that was less democratic than Fengtien Republic but still much more democratic than Mongolian absolutistic monarchy.

KMT14.jpg

Kim Jong Il was pleased with such system. The Emperor was still able to handpick the the Prime Minister by himself, and according to deal between the Khan and Fengtien Tiger, former President of Fengtien Republic became the head of goverment in the new state. The main new change in monarchic structures was elected parliament, but legislative body was much weaker than the goverment. For diffrence from Mongolian absolutistic system and Fengtien presidental system, much more power was given to Premier. But most important of all, not much changed in Manchuria. Fengtien spirit of relaxed open society stayed and even started to influence stiff-necked Mongolian way of life a bit. Tiger of Fengtien was still number one and popular godfather in his land. Emperor decided to stay in old capital of Urga where his throne is located and this way contributed to his position of nominal figurehead and mere symbol of the country. In fact, his influence over the Emperor and the power of Shenyang which remained the unchallenged capital made Kim Jong Il the strongest man in entire empire.

KMT15.jpg

But the former President of Fengtien Republic and new Prime Minister of Fengtien Empire didn't forget about the need of good image that Tiger of Fengtien must enjoy among his people. He called his main public relations official and ordered him to appear in his office despite the time was late. He continued to use his old Presidental Palace, simply renaming it to Premier's Office. Confused man quickly appeared and listened to Premier. - You know my friend, I have an idea about those posters that are placed all over the Manchuria. - PR chief knew those jumbo posters very well. He even took part in design of some of them. They were of all types of graphics. Artistic pictures, photos, even such in anime style. - Here's an example of what I want to do. - Kim Jong Il took a small version of one of the posters, took a red marker, crossed the written sentence with a red line and wrote a new sentence: Fengtien Empire is Best Empire. - I want words on all existing posters changed like this. Emperor has his portraits in all official places already, so there won't be any confusion concerning who is the boss. It's probably safe to put up some posters in Mongolia too. - PR chief thought for a momemt. - Sir, everything looks fine, but there is just one one concern I have...don't you think Japanese may not be pleased with that? You know, our new motto will be saying that we're better than all other empires...and they are very proud on their empire...and very sensitive for our actions. - Premier rejected his concern. - Oh, this is the least I can do for our Japanese friends to thank them for their effective support for unification of China under benevolent Fengtien leadership.
