Swedish Mission / Units (Gripen in Particular) Corrections

The Saab JAS 39 Gripen you have in the game carries 4 Robot 99 AMRAAM and two IRM. This leads me to belive the aircraft in question is the C version, the current version. In 2030, the Gripen NG is expected to be the dominant aircraft in the Swedish Air Force, and the NG has another two pylons for weapons, as well as extended range.

Furthermore, the name of the Airbase is Ronneby (F 17 Kallinge): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F_17_Kallinge
Arlanda will never - and have never been - the location of a Airbase; even for short range deployments. It is utterly unsuitable for the task. A suggestion is to use old F 16 Uppsala (Ärnabasen) instead. This base is regularly opened for Gripens and transport aircraft; and would probably be so in a crisis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ärna
It is also very close to Arlanda, so it would not affect the mission in the slightest.

"Gripen NG/IN (Next Generation) Proposed version with new engine (F414G), increased fuel capacity, higher payload, upgraded avionics and other improvements... The Swedish Air Force wants to upgrade 70 Gripens to this standard by 2020."

So yeah, by 2030 we should have an airforce entirly constisting of Gripen NG's.

@JanH, Why no Gotland class submarine on the Swedish defensive mission? And why is there F-35's at Swedish disposal? I would suggest removing the F-35's entirly and just make the bulk of the airforce Gripen NG's with all the advantages that comes with that.

Another thing about the Gripen ingame, shouldn't the operational range be increased a bit.
looking in the files says <MaxRangeCruiseM>960000</MaxRangeCruiseM> which i get to beeing the operational range after some changing of it and testing.

seeing that the F22 has <MaxRangeCruiseM>3552000</MaxRangeCruiseM> and F35 <MaxRangeCruiseM>2666400</MaxRangeCruiseM>

and reading about the Gripen the max operational range should be more than 3000km (with fueltanks i would guess), also internal fuelstorage seem to be around 2000L and with external 3300L
but im not entirely sure thats what those config values mean though ;)

got the thought of this after modding a gripen into a carrier based one and put on a carrier for a mission, it felt it had really hard time to reach the target while the F35 had more than double range without (LR) changing the maxcruise to that of the F35 really increased its effectiveness :)

Skjold,

Should have a Gotland there, indeed. I agree.

I seem to remember you get allied F-35s only when you play it on easy, if we're talking about the same mission.

Oh ok, yeah that makes sense since i did play that mission on easy.

Sorry to be a swedish fan boy and nag ;) but we should also have the Saab 340 AWE&C as a Early Warning System.

Look at the size and weight of a F-35 vs the Gripen it's tiny and half the weight (loaded). Even the NG version will probably not add that much to range if you add 2 more hard point of drag. Hey I'm a SAAB fan, I drive a 9-3 Viggen ;-P

Iam working on a modified version of C01S05 Iron Weasel

So far i've done this.
- Changed name of Rönneby & Arlanda to F 17 Kallinge & F 16 Uppsala
- Replaced the Allied F-35's on easy difficulty with additional JAS 39 Gripen's.
- Replaced the Fridtjof Nansen class with an addtional Visby class.
- Increased the number of planes to shoot down to win to 50.

I have alot of changes & additions planned aswell.

A few question for JanH..

1. Is it possible to get a modding sub-forum? Would be great. I bet theres a few of us whose lurking around in the missions files and looking to create mod in the long-term :)
2. I notice placement in the game is done by coords, is there a simple way to determine what location has what coordinations or do i have to make due with alot of trial and error?

Still incorrect. The Base is called Ärnabasen, but it is Aircraft from either F 21 Luleå or F 17 Kallinge who are based there. F 16 Uppsala was decommissioned in 2003.
Considering the Swedish Airforce have, is and probably in the future has the main doctrine to spread out the aircraft, using the names of the Airbases are better.

I would also want to know whenever the re-arming and pre-flight times are shorter for the Gripen compared to the other aircraft; as they should be. Gripen is notoriously easy to maintain and cheap to fly - the main selling points.

Iam planning to make a Swedish mod with this mission as a base for now, i already laid down the basis of what i want to do & making changes / experimenting with various things.
You are more then welcome to aid with input, sources, alpha/beta testing & other things as soon as i get a thread up/alpha release candidate up for the mission.
Send me a PM if you are interested to aid in this process & preferably with your Steam ID so i can add you on there and we can communicate in real time.

Cheers, Skjold.

Didn't Sweden decide to not buy gripen NG? It seems the current Gripen will be the last one.

They are the same as all other aircraft (30mins reload, 1 hour re-arm), however there is a value for each in the files so you can mod the reload and rearm times for each different loadout for each type of aircraft giving plenty of flexibility for a mod.

2. Not sure what you mean. You can use google maps or something like that to plan positions and movement and such.

Thanks, ye GPS coords work perfectly (some games use different methods of cordinates)
When will a mod sub-forum be up?

In the swedish mission, why is there no gotland class sub? In this kind of conflict there is no doubt there would be atleast 1 sub. Also when I tried to use the RBS15 setup for the JAS 39 Gripen I never got the weapons, bug?

I agree with that the Gripen should have shorter readiness in-game because thats one of the main benefits with JAS 39 Gripen.

Maybe add the detachment on Gotland, Visby airport?
