When I go to start a game there is no one for me to pick, the map is just pure black.

Then mayhap choose a bookmark from which to start? It defaults to 1066 or so, I guess.
Although there ARE three counts you can play, I think. Which makes for a marvelous shattered start.

  • It's the first game I play with a competent mage, and holy **** guys the magic system is even cooler than I first thought. I already suggested a thing or two on how to improve it, because you did your job so well that there are so many spells to scroll through.

It was originally planned to split spells into various schools, but those plans might be abandoned because the new targeted/settlement lists are much easier to scroll through.

  • I'm not sure if the AI actually use spells too, so I feel that I cheated by using spells such as firestorm or grand healing while the AI couldn't handle it. Though I can understand that getting all those spells to be balanced for the AI too might be a very delicate thing to do.

AI currently do not use spells. While the system supports it on paper, the main issue, aside from the inevitable performance issues, is that a ton of code has to be written so the AI casts its spells semi-intelligently and not just waste magicka. The problem is, this would probably be a bigger undertaking than the magic system itself, and ultimately might not work due to the spectre of performance issues.

There are plans to give AI mages something, just no idea if they will be implimented in time.

  • Magic-spawned troops may not be reinforced, but they don't cost maintenace and DO NOT DISAPPEAR. By the end, I was able to spawn stacks of 50k every three years, which made me absolutely overpowered and basically prevented my vassals from revolting. I admit I might have actually cheesed the game there, but the size of the spawned stack of Daedra seems to be related to your current army size, previously spawned stacks included.

Yup. They do despawn on ruler death, though.

Generally, if you are mage_5 with the necromancer trait and 45 learning, you have access to all spells in the game.

I have all the spells if i use the decisions menu, right click character menu and right click settlement menu? There's not another menu hidden somewhere?
Nope. Just three menus.

In High Rock, the kingdom of Daggerfall expanded a bit, but that's nothing compared to the behemoth that is the Kingdom of Orsinium. The orcs always become preposterously strong because the Breton realms don't seem to have sufficient mechanics to destroy Orsinium one more time. Oh, and for some reason that I don't get even after looking through the title histories, Orsinium is also in Yokuda, down to the southern islands of Ravan. The orcs really need a nerf.
Yeah, Orc kingdoms rule the entity of High rock, about 3/4's of Hammerfell and the area round Anvil in my game I started on the SVN version last weekend. They are stupidly strong atm.

I noticed the Orcs regularly blobbing and made a few changes to see how that'd affect their power. The bonuses they get for being in Cult of Malacath territory have been reduced and the bonuses (mainly to demesne) from Code of Malacath government have been reduced as well. In addition, I've made some changes to the 3492 and 3502 bookmarks to better suit the available lore that reduces the number of independent states in High Rock, allowing the Bretons to fight back more effectively against Orc incursions.

The first serious test game (done in the 3502 Bookmark) I've done since applying these changes has seen the Orcs hold on to power, but not expand their borders.

Another observations on a few games:
  • the Colovian Estates often expand in Skyrim and later Hammerfell (yet for some reason almost never in Cyrodiil) and is quite much unchallenged to the massive levies their confederacy government may allow them to raise from vassals called to war.
  • the Republic of the Heartlands survives 20 years at most and the Imperial Isle is usually reduced to obscurity after this.
Observations on only one game:
  • The new Tributary system with the Tribunal Template looks quite good. However, the tributary rulers of Great House Telvanni lost power after a civil war and the tributary status stayed with him and his now duchy-tier title, and the Grand Master (king-tier) wasn't a tributary to the Temple

both of these were present for me even before the big SVN update. i think it's because the colovians best bet to expand is the comparatively weak nords and chewing away at the Rep. of Heartlands

sometimes colovia gets worn down slowly by those one province conquest CBs from skingrad and kvatch and gets itself in civil wars. In my last game skingrad somehow managed to conquer most of them but I hadnt been paying attention to tamriel at the time so I missed how.

Kudos on going with Shrines instead of ruins to replace Hospitals, that is an ingenious solution to the problem. I do like the province modifier ruins, exploring makes a lot more sense.

Sorry if this has been answered before but is the stuff thats been in the dev diaries in the svn version?

Yes, although there are some things that have been altered or removed since the dev diaries don't reflect finalized features. For example, random courtiers asking to join guilds. That had to go (at least temporarily) because of the enormous strain it put on the game's engine.

Sorry if this has been asked before but how do I go from mage_4 to mage_5. Do I just join the mages guild and not pick a specialization? About how long should it take? I'm going on 5 years or so right now.


edit: Finally got it, If anybody else is wondering the answer is yes you just have to join the mages guild and wait.

To add: when you join the Mages' Guild, you'll eventually see your education level up regardless of whether or not you've chosen a specialization.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but it doesn't seem like it would be worth a new thread so here goes....

Ok so typically the blinded_eyes.dds file is overlaid over a portrait when the character has the "blinded" trait. It's normally just 2 dark spots where the eyes would be. In EK it is a series of portraits that are a werewolf, a chicken, and 3 hagraven portraits. That makes sense, because as I understand it that's normally how portrait assets are handled in CK2, and I'm guessing that the blinded_eyes file was used because it was a hardcoded way to overlay onto portraits in the case of lycanthropes. What I don't understand is why when the EK blinded_eyes file is replaced with the vanilla file it doesn't work, I am guessing maybe it is because it isn't formatted correctly for Elder Kings? If I were to add a properly aligned blinded eyes image to the front of the blinded_eyes.dds file and then point the werewolf and hagraven traits to +1 image down the image array would that fix it?

Long story short, blinded characters turning into werewolves is driving me crazy and I'm wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction to fix it. Thanks for reading and sorry for the long post.

Would you happen to know what revision has that feature?

Never on the public release. It was something I disabled after some testing. I want to bring it back in a much more limited form, to give the guilds more courtiers from all over the map, but definitely not in the way I originally utilized it.
