Don't move anything from the SVN folder that Korba's instructions don't specifically say to move. If you follow his instructions to the letter, your SVN copy will work correctly.

Just so you are aware nothing went into this EKSVN folder and instead just created a separate ElderKings folder for me? So the.mod is in ElderKings not the SVN.

So you mean your file path is Docs/Paradox/CK2/Mod/ElderKings/EKSVN? Is so, that's the problem. Get rid of the ElderKings directory; the SVN should be in your mod folder directly.

Is this version safe and playable or is it still unstable? Sorry if I should know this, I follow this mod for a long time and know that you were expecting to release the new version but that some game updates messed with mods so my question is basically if those problems have been solved :)

That's the whole reason the SVN was released, to have a version out while waiting for the 2.4.5 patch. And now to keep us distracted until the release is "official" ;)

No the path I created was Docs/Paradox/CK2/Mod/EKSVN
But instead of putting anything into the folder the SVN app selected it all and pasted it here Docs/Paradox/CK2/Mod/ElderKings

So I just moved everything from ElderKings into EKSVN and it worked for me. If anyone cannot find the .mod this is probably why since it was put into a different folder automatically and you have to move the ElderKing folder contents into your custom EKSVN folder manually.

Weird, mine made the EKSVN folder automatically. All I had to do was move the .mod file up a level.

Yeah that is what I thought would happen but the folder was empty and I saw the app had created an "Elder Kings" folder. I followed the instructions exactly so if anyone follows them and is greeted by an empty EKSVN folder, do not fear, and check the mods folder for "ElderKings" and just cut and paste everything inside into EKSVN. Then obviously move the .mod file into the "mod" folder as well. For what it is worth I am using Windows 8.1.

Just rename the ElderKings folder to EKSVN ;)

If starting a new playthrough with the SVN, am I correct that the best practice is to download once (say, updating to the current revision, 615), and then not update again until done with the playthrough and ready to start a new one?

Or is that being a little paranoid about the chance of save incompatibilities, and a better idea would be to backup the folder once a week, try updating to the latest revision, and then revert if the game won't load? Do all save incompatibilities become apparent immediately upon loading, or would doing so create a high risk of glitching the game much later due to undiscovered problems?

I understand there are a lot of unknowns here about what will or won't happen in future updates, and I'm just looking for people's sense of what the best practice is. Thanks for any advice!

I would definitely only use one version for a single playthrough. If you just update at will, you might pick up updates that completely break current playthroughs for whatever reason. I don't think that applies to all updates, but some definitely aren't save-friendly. It's not a bad idea to play it safe if you're planning on playing for the long haul.

While playing the svn I notice right clicking on a character has a become friend option, which instantly seems to tranform someone into a friend.

I've been away from ck2 for awhile--is this a part of the game now or is it a developer debug tool enabled by the svn? If it is, are there any other tools to be aware of and avoid for legit playthroughs?

It is a tool used for testing events and the like. Apart from that, I don't believe that there are any other openly visible tools.
