Gokul the Benevolent - January 1176
Earlier that day, eight different types of clay had been ceremoniously applied to Gokul Suryavamsa's 56 years old body. He had then been bathed in holy water. Once the bath was over, he was sprinkled with a mixture of butter, milk, curd and honey by four men: a Brahmin, a Kshatriya, a Vaishya and a Shudra.
Now, it was time for the crowning ceremony. Escorted by the royal guards, Gokul entered the coronation hall at Surya Durbar. The hall was filled with people, mostly nobles, eagerly waiting to witness the historic moment. Pujari Jagannath of Konrak conducted the ceremony and placed the new crown on Gokul's head.
"Long live Samrata Gokul the Benevolent!" Someone chanted and others soon followed.
No more Gokul the Young. No more a mere raja. Now, he was a man towering over all of the neighboring rulers. The Samrata of the Suryavamsi Samrajya. The Emperor of the Empire of Solar Dynasty.
After the coronation ceremony was over, the samrata approached his son. Rajkumar Vamadeva the Loyal stood besides his wife Chandena Pandya and their son Gokul. The rajkumar's concubine Chang Zhenyi was also there.
"We will be at the elephant following yours, father." The rajkumar said to the Benevolent. The samrata, the imperial family and members of the court were set to ride through the streets of Kathmandu on elephants and greet the commoners.
"Of course, you should be with your wife and son."
"I wish mother was still here by your side, today." Vamadeva said with a sad look on his face. On 26 October 1170, his mother Damayanti Chanderi had passed away at the age of 58.
"I wish the same, son..." The Benevolent missed the love of his life. He then turned to his guards. "Has anyone seen the Damapati of Lalitpur? Find my friend Chakra and ask him to seat with me."
"Did you say something, Chakra?"
"I just arrived before you, my lord." Chakra was confused.
"It is nothing. Come, we are delaying everyone else." The two men then walked towards the first elephant in the imperial procession.
"Murderer..." The voice was there again. The samrata now knew who this voice belonged to. His dead nephew Prabhu Gopi II of Gorkha. On 28 January 1167, 46 years old Gopi had died from snake bite while sleeping in the Malla mansion at Lalitpur as a guest of Chakra. Little did anyone know that the venomous viper had been placed on Gopi's bed by the Damapati of Lalitpur at the order of his friend and overlord Gokul. Rumors were that Gopi had been forming a powerful faction to overthrow his uncle and both Gokul and Chakra had decided that something needed to be done before a civil war erupted.
Later that night, the samrata made an announcement that shocked everyone. He summoned Chandresh Malla the Purifier and Amogh Samal forward and granted them the titles of viceroys. Chandresh, son of Gopi II, was given the Kingdom of Bihar. In his own mind, Gokul thought of this as some sort of repenting for the crime of ordering the death of his own nephew. To the anger of Oriya lords, 15 years old Amogh was made the Viceroy of Orissa. Well, they were his problem now.
