At last I did IT! YES!
Starting ruller: Brilliant strategist - geniuos - lunatic
At start of the game I declared war on egypt and surrendered at once. That gave me few years of peace from north. At once I raised taxes to harsh and all gold was spent on castle upgrades. Then I pushed claim on 2 axum provinces(claims fabricated) while axum was in war with sunni. Then succesfull holly war for Gondar. Meanwhile Egypt fall apart cause caliph imprisoned someone( this was major lucky moment of game). Meanwhile my son was married Byzzantian princess, and all her brothers soon die a suspicious accidents. Gondar was granted to my second son, and he managed to claim Harer on hs own, while persia had succesion crysis. And on top of it I even managed to fight Persion invasion with help of Rus and Byzz
At the moment I controll whole Abisinia and my heir is my son ERE emperor. Dont shure if it is worth continuing.
No cheats or save/loads were used.

One more limited success (after about 10-15 attempts). My son is heir to Rus, my brother is Duke of Galich, but I was invaded by Egypt and lost my king title and became count

And if someone is interested i found one more tricky way to start with nubia and not beeng stomped.
Trick is you start not as King of Nubia but as Queen with 1 or better few children already. And you marry the Caliph :laugh:
He will not only never declare war on you but also will be your ally.
Should test this deeper, will post results later.

Well, Queen start appeared to be the best of all my trials with Nubia.
I managed to gather Abissinia in 30 years due to Caliph honored his aliance to his beautiful wife
But still problems started after Cliph died, his heir took Aswan from me. With some lack and managed to retake it while Egypt was jihading. And soon after I declared war on Persian empire for Sana and ... lost. In 10 years I decared war once more and won. Lol nubia with 15k wins Persia with doomstacks. Soon after Oman while Persia was in revolt. Then my Kindom was visited by Mongols. They took Oman and Sana togather. In 5 years I retook Sana then Oman then Biribijand. Blah blah blah a lot of boaring conquers follows. By the moment my King is King of Nubia and most of duches belonging to Arabia(50%), Persia(90%), Khiwa(60%). Golden Hord is my ally. Timurids screwed. Enjoed this game a lot.

This was my Axum strategy not sure if it can help the Nubia start but it might give you some ideas...
Duke of Axum is probably easier then Nubia. You can convert to Orthodox or use the ruler dlc to start as orthodox, Holy War Abyssinia when they are fighting the Muslims, then swear fealty to the Papacy and convert to Catholic for Holy Orders. Nubia is usually taken down to 1 county because of Egypt's de jure claims within the first 18 months of the game start.
So then you can take their last county and kick the Muslims out of Ethiopia. If Egypt Holy Wars you they have to declare it on the Papacy which usually gets all of Italy and often France and HRE involved. However if they use the invasion cb even with all of the papacy's mercs it will be tough to defend.
I dodged doomstacks for 20 years during an invasion by using the super slow travel time between counties and the super low supply limits to withstand Egypt's attack until Holy Orders were formed. Raised both orders and declared Holy War on Egypt while they were still at war with my liege the Papacy. It was basically solid war for 50 straight years. But the dynasty of Egypt was completely wiped out and I controlled their realm when it was all done.
Having the papacy as liege and converting to Catholicism definitely made this scenario easier. Also the closer to the year 1100 you start the better.
If I had to start as the King of Nubia I would try and work out a plan where I could win the Duke of Axum title and lose my Nubia Kingdom then put into effect my previous Axum plan.
Without a liege in Ethiopia you have to get extremely lucky and have things fall in place for you to survive. For every 1k of troops you can raise the Muslims have 20k troops. And 1066 is by far the hardest start. Converting to Catholic is a huge boost for the Holy Orders and the 200 gold event that fires where the Pope sends you the gold.
When I declared Independence from the Pope they never even bothered to send any troops. So I just waited till it read 100% warscore and enforced demands. I had a nice size realm but no levies due to the recently conquered penalties.

Incredibly good start. Main action was to beat some c...p out of mongols. Next game I'll try to usurp Egypt, but it is damn strong opponent. Annoing that at the beginning if any revolt starts caliph takes 9k stack out of the box and stomp'em all I suggest its some kind of vasal mercenaries.
Found out that thugs are best nubian friends, Egypt suffered about 10 murdered Sultans this game
Just noticed that Egypt is Fatimid, but it was like 3 or 4 dynasty changes along game, Fatimids emerged once more. And Byzz gone Catholic both with Patriarh

Found one more epic recipie. How to claim Egypt as ortodox.
After you marry caliph you produce few sons, do not switch from gavelkind instead after you die you are going to have strong! egypt claimant as your vassal. Marry him to any of your kinswoman matrilinearly if he refuse then revoke his titles to make him landless, he'll probably join court of some other your vassal. Then switch to elective and vote for his son as your heir. And vuala you are sayid with weak Egypt claim. Assainate curent Sultan, wait for dissent and start your war for strongest kindom in game.

Well I'm finishing playing Nubia. On my like 40th attemtp I reached success. Nubia own Mecca, Nubia destroyed Shia caliphate, Nubia crushed Timurids ...
And as bonus Russian empire was created by my Kinsman and destroyed Golden horde.

After 1.07b playing Nubia became ... harder. Like we did not have enough suffering before, developers made it harder. Why ? Well because we dont have that nice holly war CB on our southers neighbours anymore. In the times of 1.06 we prayed to be invisible for Fatimids, then waited Axium-Abbisinian war, they took them both. Today we inhabit in a belly of dead camel much much more often.
I had like 10 attempts so far. Here some advice if you find masochistic pleasure in playing Nubia without using beard designer:
1. At the begining of game ALWAIS declare war on Fatimids. This buys you time for Egyptian fractions to gather, and some Sultan haters to emerge. You war is going to last few month then doomstack comes. Dont let it plunder you just surrender, this reduces chance of immediate war from Alexandria and Quena.
2. Marry princess of HRE, paradox made it celibate last patch, but you already got 1 child, and after all sometimes celibate bring a child, it must be magic of good tumble
3. Marry your heir to EHE princess when he is ready. 2 Empire allies will repel smaller predators from you.
4. Either get epic good chancellor(search global and invite or marry your courtier and invite her back) or convert to heretic(sent your patriarch to study cultural tech, that increases a chance for him to convert to herecy).
5. You must conquer Axium + Gondar as fast as you can. Because your main enemy is not Fatimids, they just take Aswan from you but wars for Axium from them are rare. Main enemy is Sana. They use 5k Hashashin stack to invade Abbisinia, and if you dont have enough force to counter it you lose.
6. Pray a lot
7. Be prepared to start over a lot, first years are luck dependant.
