Game screen launches 100% white, after recent Win10 auto update.

What is your game version?

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
See title.
Faint blue cursor.
Cursor will change shape if you randomly find a (whited out) button, but clicking then doesn't appear to do anything.
No Mods.

Can you replicate the issue?
Removing/reinstalling game (via GOG) did not fix.
Creating specific Nvidia game profile did not fix.
Launching game via the .exe file yields same result.
Happens every time.
No other currently installed GOG sourced games appear to be affected. I have about 7 games GOG games loaded at this time, some old (DOSBox), some very new (Rebel Galaxy, Pillars of Eternity w/ latest DLC).

Can't up load a file because I haven't been able to get as far a save/auto-save since the Win 10 update approx. 0001 EDT/ 26 May.

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

As you undoubtably know, there were a LOT of log files. I have attached the first 6, which should include some that were from working games, before the Windows10 update event, and some right after. I belirve that update occurred on the night of May 26, my time. I have also included the last 6 attempted launches, which include a couple from before the Curiosity update, and 4 attempts on 6 June, after the Curiosity update. FWIW, Curiosity did not seem to make any difference to the whited out display problem, even after another complete Uninstall/Reinstall, from GOG.

Let me know if you also want the several dozen other log files, from in between the two groups I have attached.

To avoid any confusion, I will attach the DXDIAG file to a separate post.

DXDIAG attached.

My hi-side video adapter is an Nvidia GForce GT555M. That is probably in the diag somewhere, but I didn't see it among the app launch window info that had all the other system characteristics.
There have been no recent driver updates for this admittedly older chip, but I forced a driver update & reinstall yesterday anyway. Made no difference.

The laptop is a Dell XPS L702X, with an Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz.
Windows 10 for over a year. DX12.

Older, but running the game just fine up until after Win10 auto-update in the last week of May. That could, of course, be coincidental, but...there are no coincidences when MS changes stuff. I did not try to play the game for 1-2 days after the update.

I have also had the same issue. Since I had the large Windows 10 update late May, Surviving Mars starts with a completely white screen and I can't do anything.

Where did you read that? Because there is a much newer driver for that chip:

The sound driver is also really old but I doubt that has anything to do with this problem.


I had previously forced a general driver update and a video driver update via Device Manager in Win10, and it didn't find anything to update. I should not have been so lazy/trusting (it IS, after all, an MS product. :} ). Should have taken the additional step of going to Nvidia, especially for such an old chip.

Oh, BTW, the video driver update, via Nvidia, DID fix the problem.
Well, I haven't actually played yet, but I launched as far as the general game screen and graphics are present, no "polar bear playing with bedsheets in a blizzard", i.e. no white screen.

I'll work on the sound driver.
