I haven't seen any talk about surrender events in AoD which is odd since one of many problems with HoI3 is that the surrender events ruin the game. I noticed for example that when the allies defeat the Axis the U.S. get plenty of territory in Europa ceded to her even when the U.S. stayed neutral. Like wise when the USSR surrenders it gets back all of it's territory, keeps it's military intact and basically just become neutral.

I am wonder what options for the surrender of major nations exist in AoD and how they are triggered. Has anyone tested out the surrender events yet?

That is my hope as well and there has been some talk about SMEP events here in the past, but since there has not been any official word about it I guess chances are slim that they are included.

But in my opinion this is really needed to make the game "complete" and was one of the most obviously missing parts of HoI2.

We have not added the SMEP events to the release version, but they should work with AoD if you want to use them.

You should really think about getting them included. Is there any opposition to using the SMEP events for vanilla HoI2/AoD?

I really don't think SMEP events are worthy of being basic in AOD. Don't get me wrong, I love the mod and it's awesome but events, that have in their descriptions ''clever'' and ''funny'' things like ''woot'' and so on, are not ready to made basic to the game.

And in the end what's the big deal? If you get JSGME switching SMEP is easier than breathing :D

If I remember correctly, as long as you play a major nation, SMEP`s events work fine. However, when you play a minor power, SMEP`s events will work against you.
For example, if I play Romania and conquer Balkan nations, I will have to give most of those provinces to Germany and Italy. As well, if I conquer western half of USSR, Germany will take them all from me at Bitter Peace.

The fall of a major power requires elaborate surrender events. If Great Britain, USSR, Germany or USA surrender, then there should be a long string of events depending on who does the conqurering. SMEP and TRP have good surrender events, although SMEP is lacking in Soviet surrender events.

Yeah, I agree that the text blurbs in SMEP are not fantastic, but the way there is a sensible division of nations into soviet and western spheres is quite wonderful.

I wasn't hoping for a direct copy of the SMEP events anyway, just something similar to how they work.

For those surrender events, I think we need:

A command for transfering a province to its controller (not necessary at war with the owner, can be allies): command = { type = secedeprovince which = 1 value = PROVINCE_ID }

A command for transfering a province to the enemy who is controlling it (must be at war with the owner): command = { type = secedeprovince which = 2 value = PROVINCE_ID }

A command for returning a province to its owner: command = { type = returnprovince value = PROVINCE_ID }

A command for returning all province to its owner: command = { type = returnprovince which = TAG }

there´s the Post War Axis Mod, which models the defeat of the axis nations quite nicely, e.g a Potsdam-Conference Event Chain and a possible lead into WW3...

I believe if the AOD team could give these options to modders, it would be really great, making for some realistic and flexible surrender events, without all the different events for the nations that may possible conquer them (The way it is now, there is no way that at least one user will try something totally ahistorical, getting his game destroyed by the surrender events...)

I have no idea what SMEP refers to so if you could enlighten me that would be great. In any case, do the surrender events work differently in AoD then they did in HoI2? If so how?

You can find SMEP on the Other Mods and Projects board at the Paradox HoI2 site. I believe it's an initialism for something like Small Mod Event Project and it aims to plaster over some of the cracks in the game via a series of events, while leaving the actual game mechanics untouched. One of the ways it attempts this is through a bunch of surrender events.
