The motto of the French right was rather Hitler than Blum. It is not impossible to have a pro-German French government around, or Petan fooled everyone. On the German side in Mien Kampf Hitler called for the netrualisation of the Western Allies, the original plan called for an alliance with Britain but France was a possibilty. Hitler allying with some one he hated for a short term gain, where have we seen that before?
