i just noticed that we have a new trade node in the Pacific, which iirc hasn't been mentioned in the dev diaries. or did i miss it?

anyway, posting to say that i do like this addition (because additional love to non-European regions is so welcome, and also because i think that trade nodes in general should be way smaller and more numerous). however, i can't escape the feeling that the inputs and outputs of this node look a bit wonky. i keep searching for a rationale behind this setup.

the trade connections from Polynesia are as follows:
inputs: The Philippines, California, Mexico.
outputs: Panama, Nippon, Australia.

which allows countries to either siphon North American wealth to Japan and further on to China (not South American trade though, because all that only flows to Panama and Europe), or to pull trade from South China (and no other part of Asia) to America and Europe. the most baffling choice seems to be the ability to pull that trade to Australia and then on to Indonesia and Europe around Africa. as far as i know, such trade connection (China to Australia to Africa) never existed. or am i missing the point? what do y'all think?

The node is really useless and actually nerfed Asian expansion into North America. Now you have to colonize a bunch of useless islands to bring trade from the New World back to Asia, whereas before you could just directly carry Mexico into Nippon. Also, because the node is mostly just a bunch of random islands, it means nations in MP can easily screw you over by sending their lights in the node since the provinces have very low trade value.

On the contrary, it now means Japan can pull from the Philippines, and Indonesian powers can pull from the Americas.

you do know about trade steering right?
yes you have to colonize more islands to see any trade from your colonies, but now that trade is being boosted by another 5% or more.
whats more as I said earlier is now you can make even more money as a china or as a japan that successfully invaded china and claimed the mandate through said trade steering opportunities like steering from china, to the phillipines, to the triangle, then to manchuria, nippon, back to china then to beijing.
theres four nodes in china alone which would be much better off under complete chinese control to actually make a profit off the trade steering.
