Does this game support 1680x1050 ? Or any other widescreen formats ?

No. You cannot change resolution at all. I personally don't really care though. I play on a 1440x900 monitor and it looks fine.

It shouldn't be too hard to find a resolution-changing patch or play in windowed mode, in any case.

Windowed mode patch should be reliable but many people have problems with the res change patch: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197543 .

Actually you can, but only up to 1280x1024.

I really hope they re-release Victoria with the new graphics engine

It is just painful to play at LCD screen @ non-native resolutions.

Higher resolutions will probably be one of the things modders will add since the source code is now available.

I wouldn't bet on it. AFAIK with the 2D engine this would require manually rescaling every image/sprite/map in the game. A lot of work for little gain

All they really need to do is find what causes the scrolling crashbug with the current resolution hack and fix that. The res hack doesn't do any manual rescaling except for the loadscreen which needs to be done by the user. If they can add new selectable resolutions to the interface that would be just a bonus.

Unfortunately, I still haven't really played Victoria--attempting to learn it is always high on my things to do list but never seems to come to the top. However, like many older games that don't support higher resolutions, I display it in a pillarboxed mode on my widescreen display. That leaves the display at its 1680x1050 native resolution with narrow horizontal black bands on either side (similar to watching a 4x3 formatted source on a 16x9 TV). This is perfectly playable for me. Note that the ability to display the game in this manner depends on the capabilities of your video card (nVidia cards allow it, ATI cards did not when I used one) and/or your monitor (some monitors have scaling capability independent of your video card, my NEC does not).

you could also just change the Driver setting to "No scaling". With Nvidia there is an option there in the Nvidia System Settings. For ATI I don't know.
