Title. I remember creating a similar topic about Stellaris a while ago and Jamor said they'll consider it. More than half a year passed since then. Maybe the developers forgot about it, or were busy with something else, but I feel like it's time to bring this topic up again, this time with I:R.

Just feels a bit weird that Steam has achivements and cloud saves, while GOG doesn't (even though it supports both, and even though it's marked as supporting GOG cloud saves while actually having no support for that). My proposal is simple: instead of removing the Cloud Saves tag from it, why not actually make it support both cloud saves and GOG achivements. I feel like adding it early and then maintaining it would be easier than having to add and bug test it all later when the game will have hundreds of achievements.

The same applies for Stellaris too.

P.S. The last time I created a similar topic it turned into a dumpster fire of people arguing which platform is superior. Please don't do that this time.

Upsetting. Would you mind sharing the reasoning behind it?

What about cloud saves and the overlay though? Will it get fixed?
Similar reason as stated by Jamor for Stellaris. It requires additional implementation of the Galaxy SDK which takes time away from the dev team to work on other features and bugs.

I understand this reasoning and it makes sense, however, I can't get rid of the thought that a proper Galaxy SDK implementation is essentially a one-time task that would simply require maintenance after that (like testing if the new achivements work with it). It's just that for many players, myself included, achievements are a big part of Paradox games that provide interesting and unique challenges and ways to play, as well as bragging rights amongst friends. Which is why it's so strange to see that Paradox doesn't want to implement achievements (essential part of gameplay) in Galaxy.

Not to mention that implementing the same things in Steam took time away from the dev team as well, and yet Steam has it and GOG doesn't. Would maintaining GOG SDK integration really take that much more time that doing the same thing with Steam?

People get angry hearing this, but it doesn't make it less true. There are far more Steam customers than there are on other platforms, so time spent on Steam features has a significantly larger pay off.

This is absolutely true. Don't know about others, I'm not angry hearing this. :p

Right now players of Stellaris and Imperator on GOG lack access to:
  • Beta versions of patches (Galaxy supports this with the beta channels feature)
  • Ability to roll back to a previous version. Again, Galaxy supports this with the beta channels feature
  • Cloud saves
  • Achievements
The first three, while important, don't really affect the game itself, it's just additional stuff that's convenient to have, so I fully understand why the developers don't want to spend resources on supporting those. But achievements are an integral part of Paradox games since at least CKII. I always liked how Paradox approached achievements in their games: instead of making them boring check lists (like the typical "Complete the tutorial", "Kill your first enemy", "Earn 100 gold"), they make achievements provide interesting goals and fresh and fun ways to play for many players.

The thing I'm trying to say here is that it's not all about the "pay off". The developers clearly consider achivements to be important to the gameplay experience, and that's why they put so much effort into making them creative and fun. But then, that important part of the game is completely unavailable to GOG users for some reason. The fact that GOG's customer base is smaller doesn't mean people using it have less needs for game features.

1.0.2 is not on Gog, but 1.0.0 legacy is. So that's something I guess.

It's currently there because the backup installer hasn't been updated to the latest version yet. If I:R will follow the same path as Stellaris, the previous version will become unavailable for download as soon as the backup installer gets updated.

We've put up 1.0.0 as a rollback version on the GOG equivalent of beta branches in the Galaxy client, called "beta channels". The channel is named '1.0.0 - Old Version'. We'll attempt to do the same thing on GOG as we do on Steam, and allow players to rollback to any of the larger updates as they choose.

This is amazing news. It really warms my heart to see that you read this topic and react! If you have spare time, would you mind asking the Stellaris team to do the same thing, or should I create a different topic in Stellaris subforum for that?

Again, thank you for implementing this, but what would make you change your stance on achievement support? :p

It would be best to post any requests relating to Stellaris in that part of the forum, as each project has it's own roadmap and priorities.

Paradox Interactive is now a high-budget production studio with hundreds of employees, and "a leading global publisher of strategy games for PC".
How can I believe that you don't have the ability to implement achievements on GOG? Either you lie shamelessly or you have serious problems managing the budget and tasks of your staff, because if indie developers can add the achievements on GOG (there are literally hundreds of examples) you can do it very well too.

Hello! It's this time of year again to ask if maybe Paradox team has reconsidered. It would still be absolutely fantastic to see Imperator get achievements on GOG, especially now that 2.0 is released. I know it wasn't planned before but maybe it's worth reconsidering. Other games published by Paradox (but not developed) such as Surviving Mars, Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny or BATTLETECH do have full integration that works perfectly. Just kinda weird how Paradox Development Studio seems reluctant to spend a bit of time on it.

I know it probably won't help our cause but I'll say that I miss the achievements as well. I thought they added them with 2.0 but it was only Steam achievements carried over to Galaxy when I was playing the Steam version for two days (while the update was unavailable on GOG).

There are other issues with Imperator on GOG Galaxy (time keeping bug) but we are trying to get those resolved with GOG support since it is apparently an issue on their end.
