I personally think the attrition system is a bit boring and annoying, so I would suggest changing it to the following:

You would have all provinces have a rather low supply limit, how ever, you could transfer the supplies from other provinces you own towards it.
That would work the following: If you have an army somewhere in friendly territory on a province that does not have enough supply limit, a supply line from your other provinces towards this one would automatically be established, raising the supply limit to almost the combined of all your provinces. How ever, if you are in enemy territory, a supply line will be established from the closest of your provinces towards the army. There will be some decay based on the length of the supply line, so if you are deep in enemy territory, it becomes more difficult to supply a big army. You could then have enemy armies and fort zone of control block the supply lines, so that you could try to cut of the enemies armies supplies. An army that has no supply line would then suffer huge attrition and maybe also lose morale.
You could also tie reinforcements to supply lines, so that an army that has been cut of or is too far in hostile territory can not (or only very slowly) be reinforced.
That system would then make high base supply provinces more valuable, since you can use them to supply all your army. It would also allow for more interesting warfare tactics, where you could try luring the enemy deep within your territory to attrition them or occupy your enemies highest supply provinces so he can no longer support his army.
You might also have high diplo tec lower the decay on supply lines to make those more valuable and you could have supply lines be extended threw the sea, making blockades more of a threat.

Almost anything suggested on this subject should represent an upgrade to the current situation. You're able to constantly reinforce your army stationed in a pacific island, even if the closest cored province is half the world away. That's nonsensical.
