Being a long term HOI player (HOI1, HOI2, DD, gap to, AoD), I occasionally struggle with some of the new features. One such feature is the Supply Dump . I have tried this many times, but haven’t been able to work out how to get this functioning. I simply don’t understand it.

I highlight a province, rmb, select “Create Supply Dump”. This makes a new convoy from my capital to this province, found in the Convoys part of the Trade folder. If its colour is green, the information tip says “There is already a large enough stockpile at the destination so the convoy does not need to run today”. If its colour is red, the information tip says “The path to that port is completely blocked”. I recall occasionally seeing a light blue convoy name but haven’t been able to reproduce that effect today, possibly for a supply convoy to allied controlled territory when I have some military units in need of supply?

So my questions are:
When would one want to set up a Supply Dump rather than a normal supply convoy? I presume a case could be when one had three remote isolated islands to supply, and if one had a supply convoy at one island, the other two islands could be supplied from the much closer island with the supply dump.

For each use of a supply dump, how does one set this up and check that it is actually working?

This funktion is for allied territory that is not under your controll. So as USA you can send supplies to a pacific island owned by the UK.

In the 45CG, is there any way to get supplies & oil to the landlocked US provinces. So far the only way I've found to keep those US units in oil is to give those provinces to France.

Thanks Pang. I am reasonably sure that I have supplied my units in allied controlled territory using this method; but suspect that I could also do this using the Trade Folder, Convoys method (I will check this).

So there is no way to, as USA, send a large supply convoy to Pearl H, then send smaller supply convoys from Pearl to Midway, Wake, Guam. Hence I still need four reasonably big convoys, one to each island from the West Coast.

You can manually micromanage your convoys, and people do. It's just that the "supply dump" feature doesn't allow you to do some kind of automatic/manual hybrid. But it's probably not worth it anyway, as you don't save that much compared to the four routes (your route to Pearl Harbour needs to be four times as big, and the total routes are slightly longer). It might be worthwhile if you also micromanage naval patrols to protect your convoy routes, but I never found convoy raiding by the Japs to be much of an issue.
