So I was watching World War Wednesday (Japan and Hungry) when they said that air drops are not being included in the game.

WHAT???!!!!

First thing that comes to mind (Other then anger) is the battle of the bulge. Where American troops stood up against the hardest German troops on the western front. How did they last long enough for Patton to relieve them? AIR SUPPLY DROPS.

PLEASE For the love of god, add it into the game!

This is coming from a loyal HoI 3 player. MANY hours on the game, and YES I use air drops allllll the time with any nation I play. Mainly because I focus on Air and drops just give my men the advantage in harsh terrain.

Thank you for reading, I hope someone in Paradox sees this plea and thinks about it.

That should NOT be the response for everything missing. Essentials like that should be standard. OR at least in an expansion.

I don't have an opinion on air drops,
but I agree that the ability to mod should not make up for things which can be categorized as problems in the game. If there is an argument for air drops, modding is not a sufficient response.

The fact of the matter is that air supply was abused in HOI3 to the point of ridiculousness. Air drops should be a pittance to an unsupplied army, not a means to an end.

Was it important at some points? Absolutely. But it is better to have a balanced game without air drops than a gamey and gimmicky feature that can be abused by the player.

Edit: Of course it would be better to fix the underlying problem, but I can't think of a solution at this point. Perhaps air supply would require 90% air superiority or something of that nature.

Ok, I can see that. IF I ever played multiplayer. They could just disable or nerf it for online sessions.

If it was added, which I am not against because it would just add more variety, it would need to be very ineffective and seldom used otherwise it completely changes the dynamic of supply, making it much less realistic. Because of how little it should be used, it seems like development time should be spent elsewhere. It would make more sense for DLC(If it fit a theme, or worked well with another system being implemented) or for it to be modded in(If people have a strong desire for this kind of historical accuracy even though it has minimal impact on gameplay).

Didn't work well IRL. Shouldn't have large effect on gameplay. Not a great feature to spend time on IMO(Apart from DLC or mods).

Ok.

Also, the Germans did it as well. STALINGRAD. Guhring promised Hitler he could supply the front lines solely with Air Supply. THIS IS NEEDED.

So tell us, how did that work out for the Germans at Stalingrad again...?

Even with today's technology, supply drops are relatively inaccurate and of insufficient capacity to sustain a divisional (let alone army) sized group indefintely. There are few examples from WW2 where it worked as envisioned.

Most definitely a non-essential feature. Well done to Paradox for dropping this and focusing on more important core elements.

It boggles my mind that people with your train of thought exist. Liberal maybe? Just can't understand a person wanting less out of a game. Sad.

That is quite possibly the worst example, because you can't supply a whole army with air supply. Actually there was a situation where the German Army got pocketed and was supplied by the Luftwaffe beforehand Stalingrad. This alone gave the army the confidence, that it is a viable decision to get into the pocket in Stalingrad. The circumstances were only totally different this time.

Air supply should be the very last resort and you don't need air superiority for that, but it helps obviously. I do hope there will be such an option down the road, because it is one of the staples in WW2

Tell that to the men who survived the battle of bastogne.

New games should have MORE features. Not less.

They barely eked out a survival until the armoured spearhead broke through and re-established regular supply lines. Had Patton not come in time, they probably would have been in a very bad position (at least until Hitlers Panzers ran out of oil).

Also, during the BotB there were supply vehicles on the ground that were constantly running the German encirclement at night to bring supplies in and wounded out. It wasn't just the airdrops...

I agree 100%. And it was a perfect example. Someone said it is too OP. NOPE. I want historical accuracy, and the ability to replay events in the game like I do in HoI3.

Hmmm, Don't remember ever saying that didn't happen. Odd. I also don't remember saying I wanted to hear more about an event I already know just everything about... You don't need to refresh my mind about it, I study up on WW2 constantly.

It boggles my mind that people with your train of thought exist. Liberal maybe? Just can't understand a person wanting less out of a game. Sad.

It's not that, I'd just rather they focussed on getting core aspects perfectly fleshed out like production lines and naval warfare balance etc., not gimmicky mechanics that will be unused 98% of the time unless the player fucks up badly enough that they need to scramble some supply drops to keep their stack from getting wiped.... (read: HOI 3)

Also, we need to establish the difference between air drops and airlift (i.e. planes landing and taking off on runways). I have no objection with some kind of abstracted mechanic where cut off troops in possession of at least a level 1 airfield can have transports assigned to slow (not completely prevent) attrition through lack of supply.

But ffs come on, are you serious with your "I wanna supply a whole Eastern Front army group with a squadron of Ju-52s". Outta here with that shit man smh
