@mrinku no no, surely you're thinking of "oversized military station" instead for the Despotic Empire! Titans from EVE was the first thing I thought of when I first read about oversized ships.

I was thinking of the Super Star Destroyer Executor, although the idea of a one-off oversize ship is something that exists in various places.

But that's also dumb. Why can't other types of government make an "elite" assault army, whatever elite is supposed to mean, if they have the resources? Why can't other forms of governments make great wonders if they have the resources?

You're thinking to "real life" rather than like this as a game mechanic - it's perks for different Government types to have you make a choice.

I am also curious about that, and so far I assume it's an oversized ship of the current size available to you. And by oversized it probably just means more or better sections, and not an actual complete new class, as someone else mentioned in this thread.

It may be bigger but it needs a backdraw for having this, using a lot of ship limit, slower ftl charge, a limit to build only 1 for your empire for balancing purposes

Interestingly, this means that Enduring and Venerable are disadvantages for these government types.

well trade offs. Not necessarily disadvantages (though I imagine that's why there's no "short lived" disadvantage trait, which is a shame).

My guess is the oversized ship isn't going to be a game-breakingly awesome death star type ship. As a government bonus, it's competing with pretty modest bonuses to other gov types. As such, and because each leader can build one, it's likely to be an expensive vanity project comparable to the Santisima Trinidad, the Vasa and the Yamato class battleships. Like these oversized ships in history, they should be scarily big but not unassailable.

I strongly suspect players to accept the cost of building them wouldn't compare favourably with the same resources spent on lots of smaller ships. In every stream I've seen so far, larger ships get annihilated by lots of smaller ships anyway. (although this may be rebalanced)

If the type of your government is changing and you built some of those special ships or buildings: Are they going to vanish? If I built a mausoleum and then changed to a military dictatorship, is this building going to stay and is it going to grant the same bonuses?

What about multiple special builds? Will you have a fleet of "Super-Battleships" after 10 military dictators have died or is your homeplanet going to be exclusively consist out of mausoleums?

The mechanics aren't so clear to me yet. I'm thrilled to see what the devs came up with...

Maybe you lose any buffs they provided?

As for the mausoleums, I think they can be built on any planet - as they inhibit ethics drift, it makes sense to spread them about to maintain the chosen Ethos.

it'd be funny if your Homeworld's class changed to Tomb World if you filled every tile with Mausoleums

If there isn't an achievement for getting mausoleums to be more than 50% of the tiles on a planet I will be disappointed. then I will do it anyway.

Besides being a bit costly, I don't think it should have a a trade-off. As there is an already inbuilt trade-off on the fact that the other governments types will have different bonuses.

I don't think these ships (and stations) will actually have more sections, given that this would require more work to go into their design, and that just for one government type. This makes me think it will just be a larger version of on of your existing ship classes with some stat boosts.

I'm kind of curious about how exactly the ship being "extra large" plays out. Is it linked to your current max buildable ship size? So the very first one you build is just going to be a Corvette+?

In terms of actual bonuses, I kind of doubt it'll actually have extra sections. I'm thinking those sections will be bigger, as demonstrated by having more slots on those sections.

Also, kind of OT, but I'd really like it if every government got a unique buildable? That'd be a bitch to balance, tho.

Super Star Destroyer (oversized ship) vs. Star Destroyer (battleship) from the aforementioned IP.

Titans and Death Stars, among others, fall under "doomsday weapons".

Edit: if you build something it should "stay" regardless of later changes barring destruction, demolition or disbanding. It wouldn't be terribly fair to lose the benefits of the Pyramids and Taj Mahal while keeping your Super Star Destroyer and Titan.

The other thing that might have inspired this are the Yamato class battleships and Nazi super-weapons in general. Hitler definitely had super-battleships on the drawing board and may even have built them if the general war hadn't happened a bit earlier than he expected. The H-39 ships even started construction:
