I think people are prone to getting angry over nothing because of monotonous lives.
Oddities like this expansion can spice things up! I am all for it. Just hope it's going to be good.

I said two things:

1. Paradox can make the DLC.
2. I don't have to and won't be buying it. In fact I will be taking the money I would have bought it with and spending it elsewhere.

I take it you disagree with 2. so you are in fact trying to tell me how I should spend my money right? Do Paradox pay you to 'enforce' for them or do you just do it for free?

EDIT: @s1234567890m so you're saying it's reasonable to attack and insult some people for no reason as long as you treat some other people alright?

What you wrote, the part I quoted, implied that you and others are boycotting Paradox. So unless English isn't your first language, you're not being sincere.

Paradox can take the direction of the game wherever they want, just means that I'm taking my business elsewhere (and from the looks of things I'm not the only one).

You didn't say simply you weren't buying the DLC ...you made an implied threat that you and others (whom you claim to speak for) are jumping ship. I find this somewhat serious as this may impact game development, though I doubt there are that many like-minded people to respond this way.

And for the record, I've been very critical of the Paradox patch ...but instead of being counter-productive I started a productive thread elsewhere (away from the heat) where we talked calmly about what we didn't like. The angst has been diffused, it seems, most look forward to the next patch, some may have shelved their game temporarily ... and life goes on.

We never thought people would get angry..

You must be new to the internet. I guess none of the devs have ever heard about the Forge and Heroes of Might and Magic 3.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_of_Might_and_Magic_III:_Armageddon's_Blade#Development
Basically Heroes of Might and Magic 3 was a fantasy game set in a wider fantasy and sci-fi blending universe. But most of the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 players had no idea that this larger sci-fi universe existed, so when the developers decided to add a futuristic faction (Forge) to a fantasy game fans reacted with outrage, threats of boycott and even death threats. As a result the Forge was scrapped and lots of developement time had gone to heck.
I, for one, am not against Aztec expansion (and believe that the scrapping of the Forge faction from HoMM was a mistake), but a lot of people are purists that do not tolerate this kind of contrast.
All I want to say is don't give up, the Aztec expansion must live if we're ever going to see that Dinosaur Strategy Game...

We never thought people would get angry..

I could have predicted angry people.

The whole reason this thread keeps going is that there are dozens of people who are protesting that 3 fanatics want a revisionist new world in a history game.

If people are annoyed that developers may see a petition that unhistorcial and take any notice of it then of course they will be hugely angry when developers make fantasy into game expansions.

Think of the multiplayer games which will now be ruined because the host just happened to think fantasy would be a good idea 300 hours of gameplay ago.

Moderators in the NW petition thread not understanding what the last 40 pages have been about also doesn't help.

Edit: I think the other error was assuming that if people are talking about the NW then they want that in game. Whereas most of the thread is 3 people for the OP's ideas and a dozen saying how dumb and gamebreaking it would be. Just because lots of people are talking about something doesn't mean they think its a good idea.

This DLC is not just something to say "oh well, dont like it, dont buy it..." about...
It shows us very clearly how Paradox are thinking - and usually I/we are full of respect of their ideas and improvements... So when they announce This, it tells us that they are not serious, that they have poor judgemental abilities, and that it's just a big joke for them, that people care about their great games being "thinned out"...

But when Paradox active are removing negative feedback on an open forum, it is More than clear, that they don't care about us "little people" as long as we shut up and buy their stuff... No room for commenting anything we disagree in... Way to go Paradox, way to go... Move your headquarters to North Korea, would suit you!

The gigantic icon on the screen indicating the DLC's presence, and the fact that pretty much every multiplayer game worth anything clearly states what DLCs they are using up front, makes this an EXTRAORDINARILY unlikely strawman scenario.

Sooo much flaaame in this thread.

I'd just suggest everyone stop bickering. Both sides have a negative impression of the other instilled of their minds because of the initial rage, and it'd honestly just be better to drop it. >.>

Careful. I said that a few posts ago and apparently there's people who want to lynch-mob me now because how dare I decide what I spend my money on.

Don't act like a martyr, you did more then say it's not for me and you've been giving as good as you got. You implied the developers were lying when they said this didn't take time away from other stuff.

You say that "Paradox has stated that this didn't take time away from other projects" however Balor's answer to "But why make this project now and not republics/pagans/theocracies?" on the first page is the ever-satifying reply of: " Well.. ehh... ehh.. whats to say.. ehh.. something isn't.. ehh.. *hush*".

Right...

You also acted like this DLC was somehow destroying the integrity of the game even though you don't have to buy or play it. I'll be honest I don't think you've been that bad in your complaints, but you have something of a double standard when it comes to those posting in favor of the DLC and those against it. You say you have the right to complain but when somebody defends the DLC or corrects you on a fact you dismissively label them fanboys.

Paradox should have warned teh old people a couple of weeks beforehand. Like with clues number #1 "it will be a fantasy DLC" etc... This was clearly bad for some people heart-condition coming out so sudden.

Could have lessened the initial reaction a bit.

I'm pretty sure I will buy this, because I'm in for a bit of challenge for my western realm and doesn't mind fantasy/history mixed at all. Only problem is that I seldom get to the late game, because my goals are usually achieved before it and I like to play it small. This might actually help that part a bit by giving extra late game challenge :) And I can always turn the DLC off, if I'm not up to fantasy(ish) game.

AND: Republics next!

The problem is, it's so ridiculous it makes the CK2 brand look worse.

You've prided yourselves on delivering a proper medieval dynasty experience with CK2 and it's DLCs so far, then Paradox comes out of left field with this?

IMO it just doesn't fit, and I think a lot of people share my sentiment here based on what I'm reading.

I could have predicted angry people.

I could have predicted the anger too because this is the internet but I don't really understand it. I completely understand not liking it and not buying it, personally I'll probably buy it but if I do play it I anticipate using it one or two times to just check it out. This is completely optional and it doesn't effect the base game so I don't understand why it would make people this angry. The main two points I've seen that seem somewhat reasonable are:

1. It's taken away from x or y DLC which the poster wanted more or the game needed more. Paradox has said this isn't the case so I guess either we believe them or we don't. Personally even if it has taken away a little time I'm inclined to let them have a little fun every now and then if they want to.

2. The fear that this DLC is the start of more DLC like it or it signals a change in game philosophy. I understand this fear but I think it's rather ungenerous of people who only want to historic DLC to try to insist that people who might like the fun fantasy DLCs can't have any. Also I think this concern is overblown, Paradox has made ahistorical or fantasy situations before like the Hearts of Iron II: Armageddon and they've continued to make their base games focus on their bread and butter of historic play. If you go to the EUIV forums a number of people are complaining that it seems like that game isn't going to be as much of a sandbox as EUIII.

I think the strength of the DLC model as opposed to the expansion model is that I can pick and choose what I want to play or buy. If this isn't your thing don't buy it and it will have absolutely no effect on your game.

Forge isn't best exception for this case- yes it was removed from game at the beginning to not confuse people who are new for M&M universe, but people that knew it- still want it. Truth is that Forge fits perfectly- those cities are like Atlantis from StarGate- remnants of ancient civilization which created everything. HoMM itself don't have too much references to this wider universe- it's almost "stand-alone" universe. Still- if properly introduced, Forge would make sense. Because H3 is ahistorical and can be expanded as developers like it- scrapping Forge was actually ahistorical for this world.

And now we've CK2- game is completely history-based, trying to be realistic. We've mongols coming from steppes and crushing everyone without any problems- because no matter how big army I can gather, their will be bigger- they don't suffer attrition at all. We've muslim that can invade world when they see fit. We've crusades that are almost never successful- or even dangerous for "crusaded". We've Poland in Georgia or Fatimids near Baltic sea. Those things needs to be balanced- from very long time, as those issues are well known from months. And what do we get? Aztecs- next invasion, this time coming from west, without any historical reason, destroying all balance that was left. Not really what I wished for...

EDIT: I just wonder- what would be a problem with asking us what kind of dlc we want next? It's win-win situation, where developers get most money for their work (more people buy it) and players get what they want... Instead of wasting time for arguing.

You have registered many games, so you're entitled to bash people who have not?....Please...

Please show me where exactly I said anything of the sort. People need to learn to actually read what people post. I never said I was entitled to bash anyone. What I was inferring what that a guy who has under five registered Paradox games making assumptions that I will boycott Paradox is ridiculous. This guy is flaming left right and centre, first he accuses me of tantruming and even has the audacity to call me insincere after I voiced a simple opinion and then for him to claim he's defending the intergrity of Paradox... That idea that someone hasn't supported Paradox for more than five games can start getting high and mighty with anyone else regarding supporting Paradox or buying Paradox games is just ridiculous.

Also kal56 quoting the OP is hardly accusing him of lying. I believe I called it a poor explanation and it is.

If there was ever time for a /facepalm moment, it is now. You are really a superior person with all your Paradox games, you're right.

Superior? No. Entitled to my opinion and purchasing choices without harassment by you? Yes.

Paradox can take the direction of the game wherever they want, just means that I'm taking my business elsewhere (and from the looks of things I'm not the only one).

It sounds like a "im gonna boycott"
